I just got a big lot of chips, mostly singles, most of which I’m looking to move. It would help if I could tell which chips are live. Is there any way to tell?
I’ve gone to casino’s websites, but those are no help.
I assume the answer is no, just because I’d think I would have heard about it by now.

Probably http://www.themogh.org/cg_home2.php is your best bet....?

EDIT: Oh wait, I see the issue, Open and Live not the same thing......sorry....

The chip guide will often list a chip as obsolete which is a good indication they are not live anymore. This doesn't always hold true though as sometimes these records take a while to be updated and can be off. Current chips are often obsolete but haven't been updated.

Notice that the second and forth chips are the same, yet one is current and one is obsolete?
FWIW, I’m pretty sure the first 4 chips are all obsolete.
I don’t think the chip guide is at all reliable in this regard.

Yep, can confirm the first 4 here at Foxwoods are not live. Only the house mold at the bottom remains.

Oh true. I was just there recently (a week ago) and they were still using it. They may have since started phasing them out but they're at least still in circulation at the moment.

Chipguide is where I would start. If I was super curious, I'd also post at thechipboard (I know, groan). Other than visiting the casino in person, or having somebody visit the casino for you, those are the only two ways I can think of.

Looks like you have some casinos to visit.

Chipguide is great but yeah...waaaay delayed on their info.

I think it's safe to determine if a chip is definitely not live on CG by looking at the obsolete field. But if it's marked current it could still be obsolete (as I discovered when I went looking for chips at a NJ casino only to find out they moved to ceramics)
