Hi guys,

My budget for chips is low. Never thought of getting Paulsons until the Chip Room HSI sale. Spending 50, 60, 70 cents per chip is splurging for me! So, I snapped up my bargains, and assembled my set, but I just have a feeling when I open the case that I am violating some fashion rules!

This set is for a micro cash game, $20-$40 dollar buyin, maybe 10/25? Anyway, the original plan was to use the $25 for a quarter, and acquire a nickel. Got hooked up with the Copa 5, which I love, but don't know how well it goes with everything. Then, I was lucky enough to get the bargain Sunday snappers, but when I look at them all together, I feel like I'm looking at a kindergarten picture of me on a day that I dressed myself! Any suggestions?

I need suggestions people!!! What should I do? Am I making too much out of the color combos?

You could mill the Copas and overlabel the snappers as quarters, but the colors may be too close.
I have the copa 5s that I milled and having Gear labels made. I’m using blue solids as quarters. Here is my mock-up done in Photoshop:

Although, I’m not using primary $1s anymore, I decided on the secondaries.

Personally I like the secondary 1a $1 and primaries for everything else. That’s how I’ve been building my own budget set.

The only chip that seems to be clashing in your set is the hot stamp.

I agree with getting a blue in there. Should be able to get those from a casino without a problem, then you skip the milling.

I also prefer a blue quarter with a white 1 and red 5, but the pink chip is cool too.

Also, I would just do .25/.25 blinds. It keeps things simpler and will barely affect the gameplay— no one is going to fold their small blind in a limped pot for 15¢. :D

I think nickels are fine to play with. While yes nobody is probably folding it gives them the comfort feeling. I would probably go with the pink (hsi) as the nickel and get some blue as a quarter. Lots of blue RHC that could be converted (just not with the small inlay)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Please keep them coming. I definitely prefer the look of the 1A secondary $1 chip, but I actually like the feel of the used Primary $1, and the used chip matches the used $5 and used $25 better. I do like the idea of a blue quarter!

I think mixing mint chips with used chips will start bothering you once you start playing with them. I’d go with the used primaries, and try to trade for quarters (or relabel your $25s, which I’m less of a fan of)

I would say just go all mint, but you mentioned price is a big factor.

It's my understanding that you want to create a set that can handle .05/.10 and a little larger, and therefore you have no need for a $25 chip?

If that is the case, do you want to change the inlay appearance to make your fracs or are you just going to use snappers and/or $25 chips for your quarter?

I like this lineup best. Could add blue dimes and label the snappers as .50? Keep everything else the same. If you want to play .10/.20

If you’re going to relabel anyway, keep in mind that HS Cleveland and HS Cincinnati chips can still be had pretty cheap and you can mix/match. I think the Cincy $1’s would look nice with those fives.

If anyone has any blue chips (solid or not) that they want to trade for my HSI snappers (straightened and cleaned), let me know.

This is the best IMO, keep the copas 5 as nickels, really nice stamp. Just do a relabel of snappers > 25c and you're set!

Only problem is sharp edges on the low denoms and used chips on $5s and $25s, if it bothers you probably a good idea to "upgrade" but get fewer chips. Doubt you would need a full rack of $25 anyway.

I think I have decided to go with basically the same lineup as @Colquhoun . I will not relabel the Copas yet, because 1) they are so pretty as is, I can't bring myself to murder them, and 2) I want to see how my cash game develops. I want to see how many nickels I really need. I would hate to murder chips only to not have them used much.

So, with the quarters, my number one target is Santa Ysabel $1 to relabel as so many have. If anyone is willing to trade for very nicely cleaned up and straightened secondary snappers, let me know. Or if you want to sell, let me know too. If I can't find those, are there basically two options for me? 1) some blue roulettes seem to be the only affordable option, or 2) I would prefer a light blue chip with edgespots like the SYs, but it seems whenever I look them up, they are over $2 per chip. Can anyone suggest any other budget conscious options? I don't know the market well. I would want the condition to match the used primary HSI $1 if possible.

THC solids pop up here from time to time...although lately it’s been a bit dry. Just be patient, and be ready to strike because they generally don’t take long to sell once the ad goes up.
I just got finished with all my milling of the fuschia Copas and the blue solids, and the Gear labels are due to arrive on Tuesday, so I can start sharing the final results.

Find another rack of copa 5s, mill them all and relabel, auction your snappers off :)

Or grab 2 racks when something pops up and sell your copas/snappers after
