good luck ... And for sûre it will be a long ball.

Nevada has strict rules about the disposal of chips. That is one reason why Las Vegas sets are uncommon and expensive. I don't remember ever seeing a tournament set from a Vegas casino for sale - no doubt I have but just can't recall it. I would expect getting such a set is difficult.

So it will be a dream :(

I was on the chip collector site and they mentioned it is up to Vegas casinos if they want to sell face value chips at the cage. I'm wondering if anyone has recent experience at any of the casinos in this town doing this? They went on to say you can cherry pick and then cash the rest back. I'm thinking of giving it a try if I find a really nice $1 that could be used for a relabel project. I like to play craps and if the tables have newer chips, it would be quite easy to get a few racks of $1 at a table with $3 minimums. I presume you could pocket ten or so before you color up. I like to go to the table maybe 5 or 6 times a day if I'm rolling dice. I'm sure they do not like this if they figure out what you are doing. You could always say those chips are for dinner or taxi in case you lose everything else.

Am I looking for trouble doing this? I've got a quick trip planned in July.

  1. Buying them from the cage isn't a problem at any of the larger casinos. Poker rooms are even easier. Just bring something to carry them in, lest some dolt bumps into you on your way to the elevator or out on the street.
  2. Do not claim they are for dinner or a taxi. By law, they cannot be used as currency. Claim they are lucky.

Only Vegas tournament set I have seen recently

The only Tournament set I have seen was one that I was able to acquire from the Palms. Given the Nevada gaming commission does not allow the chips to be sold an requires them to be destroyed. I had these until someone decided they wanted them more than me. Getting real Vegas sets is a rare opportunity.
