I have a bonus on Ignition that can only be spent on casino games. So having been a fan of the James Bond movies I decided to check out baccarat. naively it looks like there is no strategy - it looks like straight gambling. Am I missing something? Is a strategy possible?

Lol baccarat is the best game in the casino considering you’re odds against the house. Followed by basic strategy Blackjack who pays 3:2

I play a lot of bac. When u are picking right it’s the best game on the planet. When u can pick right to save your life it is the stupidest game on the planet. Welcome to the war!!

Baccarat is one of the lowest house advantage games in the casino. The edge is barely one percent. There is no work to be done, no strategy, no counting, no nothing. Guess right and prosper, guess wrong and suffer.

Table minimums can become an issue though. Likely not so much of an issue playing on-line {?}

Baccarat is a good place to grind out promotions. Also a good place to park yourself if you plan to drink.

I think the very best place to gamble is on selected video poker games, but that is only true if you do the homework and know the best way to play each machine. Tiny variance in the rules / payouts leads to significantly different optimal strategies. For most of us playing mindless baccarat is a better / easier choice.

In places where you can take extra large of "even money" odds bets at the crap table can make an even lower house advantage than baccarat, but you could easily be risking a bunch of money on a single throw of the dice. And I doubt you can find this playing on-line casinos.

Good luck! -=- DrStrange

Baccarat, or punto-banco, it's the game with better odds in casinos.

As far as I know, the only game with better odds it's "trente-et-quarante", a classy french game nowadays banked in just a few casinos because of very low house hedge. I played this game in Monte-Carlo (the original one in Monaco), but they don't offer longer.

I read that Caesar's Entertainment took a loss a couple of years ago basically because it was losing so much to players at the Baccarat tables.

At the casino where I worked, we had a couple of people walk away from the Baccarat room up $30,000 each on different days.
Yep I read the same thing, If I recall correctly the casino was booking nosebleed action (1M+ per hand) and there’s enough variance that it made a dent to the P&L

Baccarat is by far one of the best games to play in a live setting, only beaten by craps from an entertainment standpoint. If you ever get to play on a BIG baccarat table, the experience can make you feel like a Monte Carlo high roller even if you're playing the table minimum.

Story time!

A decade ago I was playing in a casino on vacation. Poker that night was really good to me and the game broke. I wandered over to a table game pit and they had a big baccarat table with a few spots open. I sat down and realized I was the only non-asian player about to play! I was just betting table minimum for awhile every now and then. I just kept to myself and then a couple other players started to bet Ties for me! Apparently, the table was absolutely thrilled / surprised / intrigued that there was another ethnicity(?) at the table with them! I had $50 on the Tie as a freeroll, and wouldn't you know it? A freaking natural 8 came out on both sides, paying me 8 to 1! So there I am with $450 in literal free money and they're all saying to bet Banker on it now!

Just as an aside, at a big baccarat table, whoever bets the most on either Player or Banker is the one who gets to look at / squeeze out the cards for that side. There were some players betting a few thousand every hand and had rows upon rows of $1,000 chips. These players, along with the rest of the table, were telling me if I bet it all on Banker that I could look at the cards! Meaning that no one else would bet higher than my $450 wager. This was absolutely DUMBFOUNDING to me. Looking back on this, it was incredibly gracious (or maybe they were just getting more entertainment from the novelty of me betting?) of them to let me take the reins for one hand.

This was by far the biggest table games bet I would ever make in my life. I put the $450 on Banker and the cards were coming out. I squeezed out a paint and a three across, meaning I had at least a 6 to 8! The dealer turned over the Player hand for a total of 6 meaning I was free rolling! I told the table it was looking good! I turn over the :jc: and with a dramatic flair flipped over the :7s:! The table erupted for me! I got paid out and knew that it was time to make a hasty retreat (it being nearly 4:00 a.m. at this time) so I thanked everyone and went back to my hotel!

This is the reason for Baccarat chips in the casino. You used to be able to only redeem them at the Bac room cashier and the casinos would essentially run a fully separate ledger P&L for bac due to the huge swings that the action could have on their balance sheets, financial statements and public reporting…
