Hello guys my name is Jonathan, but I go by either John or Tornado. I recently got into poker after going to a casino and watching people play and just having a hell of a time. I wondered what the hype was about and decided to learn how to play, now I am in love with the game and everything about it. Currently, i only have the dice poker chips which i heard are pretty cheap but so far they have worked out for me. I started hosting games on the weekend with a bunch of friends and playing at a 20 dollar by-in. After a month or 2 i finally decided to order better chips since my poker nights are becoming more and more popular amongst my friends and i. I just ordered outlaw poker chips. Theyll be coming in a week and i cant wait. I would also love to chat with people who also enjoy poker and get to know about this community better. If anyone wants to chat feel free to HMU.

Nice entry post Tornado, I hope the Outlaws suit your game well. I also bought a sample set of those a few years back... part of me wishes those or my Monte Carlos or the Casino Royale ABS slugged chips would have kept me satisfied. 3 years into the hobby now,I have never been so broke in all of my additions to collecting. Poker chips are just next level... I really can't explain it, everyone other than chip collectors think we are all NUTs. You think ohh this set is enough, then it's ohh I need a cash set,ohh what about a micro cash set.... just to get my players that say "tourney only" to start playing cash. Then it's... well I don't play limit but what if some one asked to play limit, I better be ready for that too!

So now we have four sets, we'll wait a minute these guys all have multiple tournament sets, I would like a rotation as well. Then you learn the two most expensive words ever... Clay and Lead. You may think you know those words and what they mean now... until you get to shuffle a barrel of leaded THC Paulsons especially textured shaped inlays. I promise it is all doen hill from there!

So again, get your Outlaws, Love them and word to the wise... leave this forum and never look back! Run!!

If you fail, well... welcome to chippers anonymous.the world doesn't understand us, but the fact that over 7000 people belong to this single entity of the hobby shows you are not alone, many of us are obsessed with poker chips!

Enjoy your chipping journey. Always around If I can ever be of assistance even if you think some questions made be stupid, happy to help IF you do indeed get sucked in. The little mail symbol at the top takes you to PMs, put in a user name and send a message.

Fellow Chipper Ben

Fellow Chipper Ben
Thank you, Ben! i really hope the outlaws suit the game as well. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning waiting to open presents. Also, I'm starting to feel what you are saying! You can never have enough chips because as I'm looking I'm telling my girlfriend how having Mirco cash sets can open up a lot more games because some people might not want to buy in at such high games. So why not have them to suit everyone that wants to play with us. I can already tell that im going to collect chips. Also thank you so much for giving such a warm welcome response and offering to help me with any questions that i have. My girlfriend and i were reading the response and we both laughed and enjoyed it. So again i look forward to speaking to you.

My friend the late great Jimmy Devin used to drive @ big white toranado named the White Tornado. He used to park next to my black 79 caddy 4 door sedan deville known affectionately as Big Black. It knew the way home and could seat 8 if necessary as long as 4 or 5 were ladies

BTW my first "cheap chips" love

Still have them and they will never be for sale! Lots of great family memories in that set that started us down the road to our own chipping journey.

can we keep the " cheap chips jab" to ourselves.
I used the "cheap chips" because OP refer the dice chip as cheap chips and not to diminished the Outlaw Chips

but telling someone you basically just wasted your money and bought one step above dice chips. Is that really needed?
My intention is not too say OP wasted their money but was to mention they are upgrade since they had denomination, I re-read my line and maybe is because of the "cheap" word is use, it will sound better if "budgeted" is use

they are also still Budgeted chips just slightly upgrade from Dice Chip since they are denominated

I'm not a moderator but I do ask, please think of your first post walking in here. Let's try to keep it positive folks especially with our new members.
It just weird but if OP or the Others are angered by my comment. I am sorry for the misunderstanding

I will cut down or minimize on the Intro Welcome as it not my intention to mean bad and I didn't feel very encouraging to do Welcoming Post for a few months now

Sometimes intent gets lost in a message. Really isn't my place to stick my nose where it doesn't belong. I didn't mean it as a public shaming and maybe a PM would have been better. Just sometimes like to make a quick note as I like to look at both sides.

I will never forget @FordPickup92 and I walking into this community, it was definitely a bit overwhelming seeing the vast amount of knowledge in a hobby we didn't even know existed. That first post when I owned nothing but some slugged plastics seriously wondering how I would ever fit in... what could I contribute of value. We were excited to be involved but also venerable as we trully had no idea what to expect.

Just one of those things that I try to always put myself in their shoes.

You da man @LeLe never seen you be anything but positive, I will happily take that one down if you would like.

Welcome to PCF! My name is also Jonathan, but I have definitely not earned the nickname Tornado. You gotta tell us how you got that!

I've always loved the Outlaw artwork. It's one reason that my very first big boy set was the Nevada Jack Skulls. And probably also why I love the Dia De Los Muertos (DDLM) chips. Actually, now that I think about it, seems like I have a rather unhealthy obsession with skulls.

I was thinking the same thing! I kind of want a cool nick name like Tornado! That's bad ass! Haha

Hii @Tornado1013 and welcome! We have a game in East Williamsburg and run a monthly tournament. Would love to have you come check it out sometime. There are some cool games in Brooklyn for sure and our game has been growing and we do some cool stuff and trying to expand more. No rake or fees ever so dont need to worry about that!

I know I am new and sure referring to the outlaws as cheap was a bit much for my ego since I thought I was getting top-notch chips but hey, I'm here to learn and to eventually have as many sets as possible. Both of you seem like great people and mean no harm. Thank you guys for welcoming me.

Thank you Jonathan it's nice to meet you. The way I got the nickname tornado is a funny one. Growing up playing sports all year round I was one of the fastest in my town, so when I played football my coach called me a tornado because i would run so fast to tackle someone i would always catch up to them and "fuck shit up" as my coach used to say. So all my teammates and coaches started calling me tornado and then it stuck all around school as well. Also yeah i know right skulls on chips just seem so cool and appealing to look at.

Hah! Great story! I expect to see a custom CPC Tornado set within the next 2 years. Also, the all-in 44mm special chips can say, "Fuck Shit Up".

I'm not to sure what goes into making a custom chip but I would definitely love to learn and make one someday! I just don't know what site is good to do it or how to do it.

There is only ONE for real compressed clay. That is classicpokerchips.com ... yet another slippery slope! Proceed with caution!

For true custom clay chips, it's exactly what Ben said; CPC is the only option. But in addition to choosing the artwork for your design, you also get to choose the chip colors, the edge spots, the edge spot colors, the inlay shape, the mold, etc... You name it.

Many people here choose to use a ceramic chip as their custom chip. You get the benefit of being able to use the full face of the chip for your artwork and it's a lot less expensive. But it still requires you to know what you want it to be. You'll need to come up with the artwork or hire an artist / designer to do it for you.

There is really so much to talk about when it comes to custom chips. You can even go semi custom and take an existing chip that you love, and replace the inlay with your own. Don't worry about it yet. You'll begin to learn more and find what you like, and eventually you'll have enough knowledge to decide what direction to head. It could take months... It could take years.

Welcome!

I have to say, I am super impressed with your post “quoting” skills. Took me like 9 months to figure that part out - lol!

Glad you made your way here. Lots of great members willing to help and share their knowledge. Enjoy the journey!

Best!

Thank you for that, ill keep that in mind. I'm really good at photoshop and could make my own, so I could definitely have fun with that. I wont worry about that for now because i still don't have money for custom chips. Im a college student living in nyc alone so money it tight. but when i come across money im definetly going to get more chips.
