Hi,

Making some mockups of the label I want to use for my Paulson solid color set. Going to have low denoms (5c to a few $5). Wanted to tie in my arcade game room to the set, so I came up with this design. I like having the coin slot (which will show the different denoms...used 25c as the example), however I am not sure about the text. I like the look of the black background too (white wasn't very good). Opinion away on this :)

LOVE the coin slot/button mechanism being central to this, and love the denom being where the quarter would be. Awesome!

Looks like you went with a MICR-style font for the Insert Coins Poker Room. Did you look at other 8-bit style fonts, and if so, what drew you to the current font? I'd love to see how the font used in common Nintendo games (Super Mario, Zelda, etc) looks there instead of the MICR font.

Also love the concept. Perhaps try shrinking the coin insert graphic and placing the "Insert Coins Poker Room" text along the top and bottom of the graphic and in larger font. As it is the eye kind of searches around before it understands what's going on.

Definitely stick with black background imo.

ok, so for the $1 and $5 chips, I thought about getting crazy and doing a bill validator :)

That was my original plan....but was afraid the coin button would be too small to read. Either doing the text on top and bottom straight across or curving it on the top and bottom to match the insert curve

It was the first retro font I saw...... I want to do something more "arcade font" without losing the ability to read the label

Try the denom in yellow or orange with the push to reject logo still red. It might pop more.

^^^I agree

Love the theme/look already

Agreed. Denom stands out much more. I would still mess with size of graphic and placement of name, though.

So how about this? ..... still can tweek the font and I was thinking about curving the text

Any thought on getting rid of the top and bottom yellow text all together and replacing the "push to reject" with "poker room". You could then make the graphic a little bigger (including the denomination text).

That said, I think if the text was curved, that would work too.

I did....but hated to mess with the classic button look. I think the curved text will allow the button to get bigger again.

Good idea. I would experiment with both of these options. Maybe combining with your original design, you could do "Insert coins" vertically on the left in yellow and change "Push to reject" to "Poker room".

I may need to get someone to mock these up better ..... I only have MS Paint, and its not the best :)

so here are the latest mockups..... of course not finals and I accidentally deleted the templates that had poker room facing the other way, so just use this as a sample :) I only did the 25c chips with the words

I created one of the cent chips to have the words on the side. Also created alternate labels that use the same press to reject logo rather than the bill validator (I prefer the bill validator anyways, but figured I would make the others). Some color bled through the white on the hands for the $1 and $5....that will be corrected..

Colors shown are the actual colors of the chips....same mold, solid chips (no spots)

I like the text curved at the top and bottom, but Poker Room should run from left to right along the curve, so you can read all the text at once. The nickel and $5 seem pretty close to me. Do you know the actual colors?

I had that file and deleted it by accident :) I made the other for the either side text.

The chips are kind of close, but when they are in natural light they look different. The 5c are orange while the $5 are royal red. I wanted to make the 5c chips a yellow color (I had WTB ads out with no luck)...settled on some orange which I like. I may eventually switch the $5 chips to yellow if I can snag 5 of them. The $5's won't get much use since this set is a cheapo set with $2-3 buy ins :)

This version looks good, but I agreed with atomik's note above.

I still prefer the original art (yellow left/right text and original font), but with the yellow denomination. I'd do the high-denom bill changer with straight text top-bottom, too. Curved text seems to lose the 'old technology' feel.

I am having a friend do a good version of the curved text, but I like how less cramped the chip looks with the text on the side. Just a matter of seeing them side by side to decide

The bill validator image is a go...... I can't resist putting it on chips :)

On further review I agree with Dave. Original vertical text looks better if it and the denom are both in yellow. Not a fan of the bill validator, though.
