About two months ago I told my wife that I wanted to buy a new chip set since I couldn't find my trusty dice set. She said OK and I ended up buying a 600 piece Claysmith Mint cash set. Brought it to a family party and ended up winning about $250. I figured what the heck... let's parlay that win and buy a 525 piece CC Dunes set. Ended up winning about $550 during it's first outing. So, I asked my wife if I could build a new poker table. Who needs a garage anyways right?

Here's my first attempt at building a poker table.

Here's a list of everything I used...

$25 1 x 3/4 plywood
$50 1 x 3/4 plywood (baltic birch)
$200 SSC, Rogue vinyl, 1 inch padding, 1/4 padding, 10 SS jumbo cup holders
$100 Rockler legs
$25ish stain, poly

Total $400ish

Cutting the rounded edges...

Test fitting the rail after all the cuts were made...

The racetrack is baltic birch with a special walnut stain. Also put down about 8 coats of oil poly...

One last test fit to make sure everything still fits...

Starting to upholster the rail. Used 1 inch padding with black rogue vinyl...

All done...

Let's make sure it still fits...

Now time to upulster the playing surface. Used 1/4 closed cell foam with green SSC...

Popped right in...

This is where I wet sanded the racetrack and applied some wax. I was considering stopping right here but decided to install the cup holders...

Screwed everything together and installed the rockler legs (no pic). And here's a few more pics from different angles...

All in all I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I don't see any major mistakes. And, it kicks the game up a notch. And it seems to be pretty lucky for me too. =)

If this is your 1st build you're either a natural or you have a professional background. Which is it?

Woodworking is sort of a hobby for me. I've always been the type to do it myself if I can. So, been slowly buying different tools to help me complete various projects around the house. So far I've build a wood bench w/table for the front porch, a wood bed frame and this poker table. Far from a professional. Maybe a kinda natural. But more like measure 10 times before I cut and plan everything out for a week before I start kinda guy.

Nice progressive upgrades. Keep 'em coming!

Hope you don't hit a cold streak and she then expects you to start selling off everything. That's the problem with conditional purchasing... :confused

Well done looks great. Did you have plans to look at or did you just create your own? One day I'd like to attempt a build.

Wow, super cool! I’m a city boy, so jealous. One day if I move into a house, I would love to build too. That’s awesome!

The baltic birch track came out really nice, congrats on the build. Make sure you don't leave that chip case on the playing surface padding too long!

Nope. I took it off after about 5 minutes. I was too worried it would make a permanent indentation on the foam.

Very nice job!

Thank you.

Hopefully not right? =) Seriously though... I think I would sell alot of other things before I would even consider selling this table. I can't seem to part with things I've made.

Tremendous job on the table. It looks NICE. First attempt? Hell, U couldn’t do that after 20 attempts! Well done.

Thanks man.

That's the cool thing about having a house. I get the garage and my wife gets the rest of the house. =)

wow nice work man!

Thank you. =)

Understanding wives are indeed a valuable asset.

Excellent job!

No doubt. I got lucky that she understands my ways. =)

Very impressive! I wish I had those woodworking skills and patience. :)

Just do it. I never knew I had woodworking skills until I actually started woodworking. lol

Nicely done Poker Table. I've been planning on building something similar for myself.

Go for it brother. Building it was kinda fun.

Nicely done. Looks great!

Thanks man.

Fantastic job on the table man! Love a person that takes pride in making their own stuff. If you lived closer I would pay you to do a bunch of stuff for me :) you’re a natural

A bunch of WOODWORKING stuff. I feel like I should clarify!

:D

Nice job!

Have you tried playing on tables without wooden racetracks to compare?
Many times. This is actually the first racetrack table I've played on.

I guess I just wanted to make a wood racetrack cause I wanted to see if I could do it and because of my regular game. A bunch of drunk cousins/friends who vape. So, I wanted a place for them to put down their beers/mods without worrying about if the cloth will get messed up.

With that said... i've already put a few hours on this table and I gotta say I don't mind the raised playing surface at all. I haven't noticed any time that it got in the way. If a card was delt on the wood I just pushed it forward and the lip made it easy to pick up. And, the racetrack gave me a stable surface for the chips, beer, phones and vape mod. Now that I've played on it I'm leaning towards a racetrack table over a full surface table for my next build. I wanna build a smaller mahjong table that has a cover so it can double as a picture table. Might be a few months before I start that one though.

Nice job on the DIY table. Looks professionally made.

Also, dibs on those Dunes cc’s if you sell :)

Nice work.. Looks great! Some pretty quick upgrades in a couple of months
I did a racetrack with built in cup holders when I built a table many many moons ago (though built it so the playing surface was level with the racetrack).
It was cool looking, but I found I prefer a playing surface without one.
You may want to think about no racetrack for the next one and consider building drink carts.. can hold everything for players, keeps drinks from spilling on the table and are pretty easy to build (especially if you have some decent skills, which you do).
That said, since you already have a very nice quality table and this is a chipping forum, your next upgrade should be to clay chips  :)

I was actually considering building some stackable drink/food carts. Just have to come up with a design.

As for chips... I've already bought 3 sets in 1 months. So, it's safe to say that I've already planned on piecing together a casino set. I want to start with the 1s and 5s. But, I want to get them myself from some of my favorite casinos (flamingo, Sam's town, primm, Bally's, etc). After I get them I'll figure a way to fill out the set with fracs, 25s and hundos. I also plan on building a fully custom set. After that I might slow down. Lol

Awesome table sir! First table looks phenomenal, you can tell you put time and effort into this build. You will be rewarded for years to come. I am in the process of building my third table with a raised rail.

I have never played on a table with a racetrack, but yours turned out great. 8 coats of poly, I feel it should hold up well to the chip abuse!
