If you had a time machine and could go back to any point in history for one (and only one) chip-related activity what would it be? For some reason I've been thinking about this a lot lately and thought it would be fun to hear what others would choose. I have my list narrowed down to 3 or 4.

I don't necessarily intend for this to be a "biggest regret" thread but if that's what it turns into so be it :) Sorry if this has been done already - I did a quick search and came up empty :)

Watch Stu Ungar play Jimmie the Greek heads up then tell Stu where his life is headed and what poker is like post Moneymaker.

Then I'd get some sweet singles from casinos on the strip back in the 70s.

I would go back to 2004 when I purchased my first set of chips. I paid $265 of eBay for 1000 of these beauties in real 500 capacity cherry veneer cases (made in China). I would slap myself upside my head and tell me to save my money for some real chips. Oh, if I had only known :)

Oh, maybe started collecting earlier... All so I could have been around when Jim offered up the Bennys chips for sale. I got most of mine through him initially, but it would have been so much easier (and cheaper) getting them all from the get go... And from one source

great thread links!

First I would go back to see Clarence Darrow in his prime and learn debate skills from the best. Then I would go back to the meeting where the Nevada Gaming Control Board decided not to permit sales of chips from closed casinos and use my mad skills to convince them otherwise.

I would go back and tell myself to get into poker much earlier than when I originally did.

I would go back to when I passed on getting Paulson customs because they were too expensive $0.78 apiece. My buddy Rich, the Dentist brought me the catalog back from the Paulson Store and it sat on my desk for a long time until I finally threw it away.

Heh, whoops

For what I have spent on just the chips I have in my cabinet right now, I could have bought approximately 18500 custom Paulson TH&C chips.

Yeah, but like a fine wine these chips will increase in value over a period of time. Just don't break up the set! In a couple years they will be vintage and easily sold on FeeBay for double what you paid. :p

I'd go back in time just for that booklet!

Dear God. When you died they could bury you at chip.

Mine would be playing 18 at the Dunes and then playing in the casino until I couldn't see straight or was broke (or both).

I know how you feel. When I first looked into custom chips Paulson sent their brochures for semi-customs. I didn't know what Paulsons were at the time but the fact that I couldn't pick my own edge spots turned me off of them. I threw out their promotional leaflets and went with ASM's 312 offerings in 2002 (and I'm am very grateful for them, but I'd be a liar if I didn't admit I'd like to go back for some inlaid Paulsons!).

Also, going back for some custom TR Kings would be nice.

Custom Paulsons were available until when? When GPI bought them?
If I could travel back in time, I would of kept the 2500 Vineyards that I bought from the Aces guy.

My first trip to Vegas in '99 the store in the Tropicana was selling a set of casino chips for $50. I was sooooo close to buying them but ultimately went with some super diamonds because I didn't like the fact the they had denoms and were used. DoH! I couldn't even tell you what casino they were from now but in my nightmares I imagine they were Dunes.

Funny, I was thinking along these lines the other day.

I'd go back to the mid-90s and get myself 3-4 racks of Maxamillion $1s from the cruise ship itself.

I would be all over the BCC GCOP group buy... mmmmm

then I would also go back in time before the first high five and do it to the guy who was just about to invent it

I would've bought the custom TRK's in 1998. I had the design, had the price, was talking to Dennis regularly and just couldn't pull the trigger ($1.8K for 1K chips).

This was late 2001 or early 2002. When I called Paulson the lady said that they were going to stop taking "small orders" for custom chips (semi-custom: their color and spot combos like you see with Casino de Isthmus/Pyramid/Casino Mexico?/etc. sets with your custom inlay/artwork). I asked if I could be one of the last small orders and even though she said yes, the minimum # of chips was pretty high IIRC. It wasn't the 100,000 minimum like it was with GPI, but it was still higher than what I wanted at the time. 1000? 2000? I was very new to chips and didn't know what Paulsons really were at the time so I didn't pursue it further (*bangs head on desk, wall, concrete floor...*)

Funny how 1000 chips is now what I consider a "small" set.

I either missed, didn't know about, or couldn't have afforded so many opportunities. However, if I could roll back the clock for one thing, I'd order a bigger set of Lady Luck Club v1 chips from BCC.

The rest of my list is made up of semi-custom Paulsons, custom TRKs, the original PNY and PCA sales, yada yada.

Go back and start my casino collection habits much earlier. Like early 90's. And also not by my first set of chips which were Bugsy Hideawys. Loved the bugsy theme. Would have taken the money to buy a custom set instead.

I wouldn't have sold my Zombie Tourney set with a starting stack that included Plaques :(

Go back and buy all the original rounders chips. That movie got me into poker, which lead me to chipping.

Really? you have a TIME MACHINE and all you want is to go back to a group buy from a year or two ago? To get chips that are still available, albeit at a price?
