Good morning guys,

Soooo....I'm buying a cash game set of Double Down Saloon Paulson Chips denominations $1, $5, $25, and $100 so that I can start a home game. However, I won't always be playing with serious poker players.....Some of the people I plan on playing with are family, friends, and co-workers who don't play poker regularly. And so they won't be comfortable playing for $1/$2 blinds. They would prefer [ 10cent/25cent ] or [ 25cent/0.50cent blinds ].

And that's where the trouble starts. The Double Down Saloon set doesn't have any fractional chips. I would prefer not to do a mixed set because I wanna keep the same Double Down motif, however, I am open if that's all I can end up with.

I've thought of some other ideas as well. Perhaps maybe using blank China Clays (Milano or Majestic style blank) with custom Double Down Saloon labels from GEAR.

If you guys have any other ideas, please share. I really appreciate the help!

I attached a photo ( credit to: @DrStrange ) of the chips set, but I'm sure most of you on here already know what they look like.

A resounding NO to the first part, and a resounding YES to the second part.

Top quality Gear labels (unlaminated or laminated) is where you want to end up with in a semi-custom frac (or two).

However, in my playbook, it is nearly blasphemous to mix a China Clay with a Paulson set. I would counsel you to consider the following:
1) Keep the RHC motif going
2) Choose appropriate base chip colours for the fracs you would consider

There may be some very good, harvestable, and relatively inexpensive options for live convertible chips from Las Vegas. Any Blue RHC, for example, would work as a quarter. Choose another for your nickel if you absolutely need a nickel. A rack of each might be all you need.

I would consider full inlay replacement, milling to remove hotstamps, or other method to prepare for custom labels. It is possible you may be able to do a simple label-over with an unlaminated sticker over an existing inlay if the chip recess is deep enough (generally requires chip to be in Very Good or better condition).

Are most of the Double Down chips used enough to the point where they fit 21 chips to a 66.7mm barrel?

If so, I have a good RHC frac candidate. I have 150 RHC Metallic Gold roulette chips from Klondike Sunset Casino. I think of it as 140 chips + 10 spares, if you prefer full barrels like I do. Granted, in stacks the Paulson metallic gold color doesn't look the best, but the gold color looks good on the chip face, and seems to match the inlay of the Double Downs. The hotstamps on these chips are worn down enough where they may take a label without having to mill them.

You can see the chips in use here, from the Baltimore meetup in 2018, where we used them as 25 cent fracs along with a California Bell set.

There is an existing fifty cent fractional. It is a hot stamp on a solid yellow base. From the chip guide:

I haven't seen these for sale in a long time, though I have been looking. One might make a gear label based on the hot stamp, change the value as needed and viola! you have an almost authentic fractional. I suggest playing with a single $0.25 blind, not dimes or nickels needed.

I had racks of Paulson yellow blank, but they went to make the fractional chips for my Tropicana set. If memory serves, I still have one rack of worn fun night hot stamps that can be milled to blanks.

Good luck with the project.

I spoke with Mark @k9dr today and he also told me it would be an eternal sin to mix Paulsons with China Clays......so yea, I'll scratch that idea from the record book haha.

Didn't even realize there was a hot stamp 50 cent chip in the set, my mistake. Wow, nice!

If you're into labels by gear the santa ysabel $1 makes a decent choice (albeit more pricey than THC solids)

I actually like that color. I might have to look into those and just see if I can do a re-label job. I've decided I'm not gonna go lower than 25 cent chips. If people wanna play in my game, lowest blinds will be 25cent/25cent. I'm not doing 5 cent chips haha.

There are quite a few of the hundreds out there, convert the hundreds to quarters via gear labels and then recruit a yellow chip for a couple barrels of hundreds to round out the set.
