I remember (1 Viewer)

As a follow up to my misplaced wanted ad, I just want to tell everyone what I love most about joining this forum although it really has nothing to do with this thread. Prior to me joining, I never got any packages. My wife and daughter got all the packages, and it came to be expected that when a package came, it wasn’t going to be for me. Since I have joined and started buying chips, boy do I get packages. The best part of this is when the girls go to grab them, and I get to say ... “no no no, those are for me!” The reactions are priceless - which started as surprise (what did you get??) and has moved to annoyance (OMG more chips??). My Mail days are awesome. Getting a package is like seeing ur name in the phone book (Movie reference below)! Keep the packages coming and hopefully one of them will soon contain SB 500s. And btw meeting and interacting with nice people is great as well.

Very good memories of a lot of people, some gone for various reasons, and great memories of a LOT of meetups. I started collecting chips in the early 90s when I worked with various casinos through my job. Having seen behind the curtain at both CT and PCF, there doesn't seem to be a big difference to me. There are different people. Sometimes I feel like the 5th year student when all my friends move on, then I make friends with the new freshmen.

Don't let all this drama distract us from the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.

I like the place. I like everyone. I’ll stir some shit up when I see something I don’t like, but that’s just because I’m brash and loud.

I’m sure there have been times that this hobby has been more fun, and times when it’s been less fun.

It seems like we’re not such a small community. And in any large groups, you’re going to have givers and takers, value add folks and jack wagons.

Personally, I’m in a super shitty position to be joining this hobby. Two super young children, repeatedly moving across the world, starting my own business, and impossible to figure out “fun money” during a time when huge random expenses keep popping up. But folks here indulge me. They work with me on timing, show some patience when I’m stuck somewhere. I in turn try to pay that back in a multitude of ways.

All the vets say the same thing, enjoy the good, ignore the bad. I’m still working on getting there, but definitely enjoy all the good (and occasionally enjoy not ignoring the bad  :ROFLMAO:). I think it’s funny that there’s been an influx (I think) of users, and that in the last year I’m part of a group that have be extraordinarily active users on here, both financially, socially, and site wise. Hopefully that bares out to be a good thing and not bad.

Thanks to those old and new, admins and members who work on making this work. But fu*k that Bill guy, @detroitdad inviting me to a small meetup has cost me a fortune over the last year.

People will do what they wanna do. Even I have a list of people I won't do business with. And most of those reasons are from annoyance and petty shit. I guess I wouldn't take it very hard if someone said they didn't wanna do business with me. I'd start laughing and just go on my way.

I'm a sassy bastard tho.
So bottom line ... you do you? Figures.

Back to OP here ............
Hello Friends and fellow addicts. My name is Jim and I love Chips. That’s really why I’m here and have been here since the great migration from Chiptalk which was the start of more than a few of our journeys down this avenue. So, yes, I remember:

I remember when Chiptalk started with the Paulson chips Mold Pharoahs club and casino group buy where the chips sold for .90 cents each.

I remember the following group buys for TR King deadwoods and Rounders that were open to All members.

I remember Puggy from Finland who used to post menus for dinner to each new member.

I remember the GCOP group buy again open to All that in my opinion was the best run group buy ever.

I remember A few Grand Cardroom group buys on differing bcc molds each an epic chance to obtain awesome chips for the entire community.

I remember several Chipco and ABC ceramic group buys again open to the entire community.

I remember the first Chiproom sale where chips sold for dirt cheap because some of the over stamps cracked the chip. I also remember the great deals Jim used to give the forum members until flippers ruined it for everyone.

I remember the upheaval about Greg Cagle charging membership for Chiptalk that eventually lead to CT’s demise and the exodus to PCF.

I remember how Tommy now institutes a charge to get ads off your threads and no one complains.

I remember deaths of revered members who’s integrity is still missed.

I remember Secret Santa and exchanging gifts.

My how things have changed...

It’s sad to see the memories of good times and what we have become. I have left before because of the bullshit that happens regularly between supposed friends who only know each other from our shared passion Unfortunately on this forum and am tempted to do so again. Can we somehow restore integrity and community? I’m giving it 39 days before my decision to stay or go. Let’s have a good, honest look at what we really have and try to make it better.

Thanks for going down memory lane with me. It’s 16 years and counting let’s hope the count keeps growing.

BPT
OK let me evaluate this for what I see - and please forgive me but I was not a former CT person I never heard of CT until I came here - but this comes up WAY TOO OFTEN.

A website is a website. I understand that there are things "the powers that be" can do and not do, but in all reality a website is a website. It has bills to pay just like everyone and everything else. A website is only as good as the people to visit and contribute to it. The people are the end root source of success or failure of a website like this. If you left CT for a reason (whatever that reason is does not matter), came here years later, and loved it at first because it had all the same CT people?!? Wouldn't transplanting the same people also transplant the same end root source of the problems that caused you to leave CT in the first place? What am I missing here?

Great movie - see my signature line - yes it's random, yes 1 in 100million knows it.

You are missing something. People didn't leave CT because of fellow users. They left because of the owner and his bad decisions.

Is this considered a "community" type of response???
I can’t believe that, 8 posts into this thread, you decided to randomly post a private message from someone not even involved in the discussion. Until @ReallyGoodUsername posted, I was under the impression that you were complaining about a message from the OP. Bizarre.

Wasn't around for CT.

But think this place is great.

I miss the live Meetups most right now. :(

And a word to you all, if you dont like profiteering, or the classifieds are too stressful and make this place feel like an unwelcome place.
STOP GOING TO THE CLASSIFIEDS !

This place has a lot more to it than just one small sub forum dedicated to the buying and selling of chips.

Thought this was funny, remembered posting this awhile back in another bizarre thread, then I had the awesome idea to search for all the times this has been used!

Damn, turns out not a lot of MwC fans, this is the only use of the quote on this site!

Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met have been through CT meetups. I started collecting chips in 1989 on my first trip to Vegas. Years later I found CT and couldn’t believe there were so many people that shared my interest. I’m sad that they’re not all here but I am grateful for the friendships made and my new PCF friendships.

Hosting the first meetup way back on CT was pretty exciting even though it was only 8 or 9 of us
PAZ , I was pretty happy for you when you came and won a tournament at my house on your first trip. You the coolest cat ive met through the chip habit.
RIP I run 8’s who sent me a great Harley Davidson flag for Secret Santa .
