I just booked my 2019 flights to Vegas - best day ever (1 Viewer)

I only took my Mustang rental up to 120 on I-5 heading up to Mesquite. Should have seen how I could top it out.

Yes to renting a car. I too have rented a Mustang and drove through the desert. I chose a convertible because I'm a big fan of the night stars. Pulled off the road, put the top back, and had a picnic dinner and a bottle of wine with Mrs Zombie. More stars than I've ever seen before.

I do not recommend driving 150 mph in the Mustang though. Although there are no people that will get in your way and no places for a police officer to hide, we found a rabbit that decided to venture into our path. The end results were not pretty. :bag:
Recommendation noted and will duly be ignored. That baby will be begging to be driven at 150mph.

Odd mine was speed governed. :(

What do people think about circus circus? I just found it for $512 for 7 nights inclusive of the resort fees.
Is the location any good? I guess I’d be fairly close to the Wynn. I’ve heard the games are good there. I suppose an Uber would be easy enough to catch as well.

Personally I’d prefer to be closer to Aria / Bellagio / Caesar’s. Flamingo is perfect and should have a similar deal at your price point. Also their poker room is an ATM.

I haven't been there, but it attracts families, which means screaming kids , and from what I understand it's kind of run-down :poop:. However, they have a highly rated steakhouse (y).

For my money, the best location is Bally's. It's not super nice, but there is an obvious effort to keep it up to par. It's on the strip and short walking distance (which I define as 1/2 mile in the Vegas sun) from...
  • Aria
  • Cosmopolitan
  • Planet Hollywood
  • Paris
  • Bellagio
  • Bally's
  • Ellis Island Casino & Brewery
  • The Cromwell
  • Flamingo
  • Caesars Palace
  • Linq
  • O'Sheas
  • Harrah's
  • Casino Royale
  • Mirage
Giving it the greatest number of casinos within 1/2 mile of it's doors. Prices are fairly cheap as well. As a Caesars property, they will have WSOP rates as well, beating all other rates that I have found.

Maybe I’m not good at finding Vegas rates, but flamingos on my totalrewards site I just signed up to yesterday is $900

1. Make sure you are logged into your account
2. Enter promo code hot18
3. Prices will fall. You don't need to book so far in advance. 3-5 months is about the sweet spot though the prices at circus circus seen pretty good. CC is reasonably close to wynn but at the far end of the strip so far from anything else.

On this note, most bookings should be refundable so if you book now you can always cancel or re-book at lower rates. Just make sure you know if it is refundable or not before you book.

I wouldn't stay at CC, it is a shitty hotel in a shitty location. I would give up one of those things but not both! If you take your time and shop you should be able to get very similar prices at Flamingo or Bally's which is right where you want to be.

Your total rewards card won't do much for you if you haven't used it at all yet. When you are 2-3 months away from going I would call the hotels directly and see what kind of prices you can get. Don't book anything this far out unless you find a smoking deal.

If I was you I would seriously consider finding an airBnB that you can just keep for your whole time. Resort Fees are lame af.

Moose is right - booking now, while it seems reasonable is not the best plan.

Unlike most cities, Vegas is not going to run out of hotel rooms. We made impromptu plans when we heard Michael Buble' was going to have a show on New Years Eve. One of the 3 busiest days of the year for Las Vegas. While searching for a room, I never found a hotel declaring "sold out". Late May, early June is even less likely to see a sellout.

With this in mind, hotels know that some people like to book early. For that, you pay. 3-4 months out, they run more and more specials. Caesars entertainment will run their once a year sale around that time, and those are some solid deals. Also, the WSOP will have discounts available. It's a little tougher a search, but you can get them a couple of months after the WSOP schedule comes out in January or February. Nobody has ever asked me for proof of playing in a WSOP event, and I've used the discount 3 times now. Why wait so long after putting out the schedule before offering discounts? because they know they can fleece the eager beaver.

My last trip (June 2017) I spent $547 on hotel rooms over 6 nights, and 2 of those nights I rented a suite for the Meet in the Suite meet-up.

Vegas however, is expensive. If you have a car you will pay for parking, to the tune of $15-$20 per night. Resort fees will knock you back $20-$40 a night. So a nine night stay is in the ballpark of $425 (plus tax ), and that is if you get the room for free . Fridays and Saturdays always run notably higher, but once in Vegas a Tuesday is practically just as good as a Saturday. Weekends also cost more to gamble, as table minimums go up and poker rooms fill up. If you can time the trip so you are in LA or the Grand Canyon on Friday/Saturday, you can save quite a bit.

I still think you should make it up to San Francisco. Beautiful city, lots to see/eat/drink, and it's extremely walk-able. Tickets on Southwest Airlines are very reasonable. You'd have to fly into Oakland but BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) will get you into the city in no time. Of course there's always Lyft/Uber.

Another bonus is that I'll be able to make some great cocktails for you. You can talk to @Godzilla28 if you need references about my abilities :D

I’d really love to, but with only 6 nights with the wife there won’t be time.

We are thinking 2 nights in LA (want to go to six flags or universal) then 4 nights in Vegas with a side trip to Hoover dam and the Canyon.

With regards to my 7 nights degening it up, I think I’ll take everyone’s advice and wait till early next year to book rooms.

I was originally thinking downtown to save cash, but now i realise I might be better off on the main part of the strip. My goal is to be close to lots of good games, for the most part 1/2, 1/3 and bankroll depending 2/5.

Check prices again, there are reports that free rooms are showing up even with brand new players cards...ymmv

I just checked the rates and they seem the same as before.

Nothing showing up in the offers section.

Actually Harrahs is coming up as $667 for 7 nights, which is decent.
