Those of you who have many poker chips, what do you specifically not have in your collection and why?

2 rules -

1) later stage collectors only please (only because if you are new there's likely a lot you don't have) and
2) broad categories only (not, I don't have any aurora stars - but if you don't have any NAGB chips, no Matsuis, etc.)

I have the full gamut of Paulson THC leaded and unleaded, hotstamps, RHC, and even paradise mold, as well as a couple CPC sets and one of the Abbiatti group buys.

I once had and don't ever plan to have again...

Oversize chips - feel weird and just never liked them
Matsuis - colors are great, but chip face patterns never impressed me and some can be super slick
Cards Molds - had samples, don't mind spending the extra money for higher quality chips
TRKs - just not awed by the feel and don't value them as highly as others on here

And then I've never had a Bud Jones set.

What about you?

TRK's. Have played with them. They're nice, just don't think they're worth the price tag they command. I'm content to play with them at meetups twice a year.

I guess I’ll go with I’ve never had, because despite the fact that I’ve owned 15-20 premium type sets, I just don’t accumulate them - I only own two sets right now.

The one the comes to mind as worth mentioning is:
I’ve never had Bud Jones V7 chips. These are the weird slippery/suctiony ones like the Borgatas. Those particular chips were the first real plastic chips I handled and they turned me off to plastic chips for years. I was wrong about plastics - some of them are freaking awesome, like those expensive Abiattis.
There are probably others, but for me, it comes down to this. The more I host and the more I play other people’s home games, the shorter my “never will I ever” list gets. As long as they stack well and handle well, they’re probably good enough!

I don't have any TRKs and I only have one set of over-labelled THC Paulsons (some of them leaded, some of them former boat chips).
The reasons are basically financial (I joined in early 2018 when Paulson prices were already exploding) and geographical (which also means financial - you can't be sending chips back and forth the Atlantic to make a set)

Above all, I 've appreciated the precision, customer-care, endless customisation possibilities, and professionalism offered by CPC and decided that I 'd give my money to that business.

Excellent topic!
I am pretty much retired from collecting (& almost gave in to tigers; I was SOO close to pulling the trigger).
There were so many sets/chips that I snubbed as a casual (eclectic) collector, but that now fetch crazy $$ now.
No regrets, those went to those that wanted.
I will contribute here later.

Cool thread. I think I’ve got a bit of variety in chips I’ve bought, sold, but also retained.

I don’t have, in my collection, any Bud Jones or any plastic chip. They just don’t do it for me.

@upNdown , I first played Casino poker at the age of 21 l, and all of them had a contractual obligation to buy Bud Jones for their table games. At the time, I didn’t know what they were, but I do remember disliking them. I suppose I had some chipper in me back then too, lol. I remember their suctiony nature and stuck togetherness was off putting. Since I got into this hobby, I just haven’t pulled the trigger on these for this reason.

I’ve sampled all, except for B&G chips. I have a couple of singles and they don’t excite me at all. I don’t know, I can’t like plastic. The Bud Jones S2 though, the sample had me excited, also had local access to them, but I never did pull the trigger.

I’m always cognizant of the fact I simply don’t dig plastic chips. I want compression clay.

Although, I have cards mold in my collection. So I’m a bit of a hypocrite. I don’t even know what cards mold are. Does anyone know what sort of materials are put into those things?

I decided on THC and unloaded all RHC and TRK chips
I am at times wrestling with this same idea. I could

I love them TRKs though. If I sold mine, I’d be heartbroken I think. I wonder though, would enough THC help drown my sorrows?

You don’t regret it so I guess that answers that.

I saw what you posted in the Tiger showcase thread, and you certainly bought enough to fill a void. WOW!

Yep. Sold off most my other projects for Tigers.

There's a lot that I still currently have, or have had in the past.

But there are a few sets I don't currently have (or won't ever have going forward).... because I dislike either the look or feel (or both):

-- BCC flame mold chips
-- GPI PAULSON mold chips
-- GPI RHC mold chips
-- GPI 36mm RHC mold chips
-- clay chips with oversize inlays (any mfg)
-- CPC hourglass, diecard, or FDL mold chips
-- all high-end plastic chips (BJ, B&G, Abbiati, Matsui)
-- all ceramic hybrids (except Sun-Fly's 43mm HB005 mold)
-- all china clays, in all sizes and molds
-- all mid-range and low-end plastic chips

Plus a few other things I won't ever own (but wish I could):

-- custom Paulson 43mm IHC mold set
-- custom BCC T-mold set
-- custom BCC four suits mold set
-- custom TRK scrown mold set

If blank chips get directly printed on, I’d classify them as ceramic chips. Plastic and clay chips both exhibit actual material of different colors.

I don’t have any ceramic chips partly because of this, but I never did like their feel or sound either.

Also no china clays, they are just smelly imposters.

No plastics other than high end, because why on earth would I? You can get most used high end stuff for cents on the dollar.

No over-hyped and over-priced clays, the more reasonably priced clays always have room on my shelf though.

I have poker chips but I have no desire to collect poker chips. I will eventually get a CPC cash and tournament set, but I've said that for 5 years.

I don’t see myself as a collector. I will never own sets that don’t see any play. I will never have ads that say ”mint, untouched by me”. Will at the minimum shuffle em.

Never say never but I’m unlikely to own any plastics chips again (don’t do it for me) and probably not any old school leaded THC or TRKs again (too expensive).

I’ve never owned a set of dice chips. Used them at a friends house when poker fired up in the early 2000’s on the Moneymaker rush and immediately knew I’d never own any.

I have handled or owned most of what is out there and have sold everything except Paulson THC.
Nothing gives me the sound or feel like that mold does and if I had to go into chipping retirement right now, I'd be fine with it.
Still planning to have a nice cash set of CPCs made at some point but I'm in no rush whatsoever.

No TRKs.

No ceramics or plastic hybrids.

No CPCs, except samples… though I do have a lot of ASMs.

(Also no Bakelites, no composites, no bone or pearl plaques, no interlocking plastics…)

…friends! :(

:ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO: Kidding.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a single chipco chip in my possession. Nor have I ever had a Paulson chip over 43MM.

Just never felt the need for yellow fives. Have a few racks of yellow fracs and I'm all good on yellow.
This. I considered putting yellow 5s in a set I was building. But then I played with a set with yellow $5s and kept grabbing them and throwing them in the pot thinking they were fracs. I then sold almost all my yellow $5s and bought a different set.

I have no relabeled clay chips. I came to the conclusion that the whole point of clay is to have the inlay as part of the chip so a relabel with/without murder kinda defeats the objective. I do have a rack of relabeled BJ S2s but that's a sticker being replaced with a sticker.

I was gonna say that I have no RHCs but I do have once set left - I'll have to put these in the classifieds.
