It is making me into a chip snob and I don't even have amazing chips.

I went to a weekly home game yesterday and played a cash game .50/1. They guy had a pretty awesome set up actually at his place of work with 2 casino grade tables. I go up to get my chips, and buy in max of $120 and count my chips and note that he gave me 5 bucks too much, he took back a red bird and thanked me for being honest and I took my seat. A couple mins later he came back over and told me to recount to make sure because the .50 chips and the dollars look the same. Both chips were exactly the same color white and blue but did have the denominations marked on the chips.......very confusing.

As for the chips themselves, they were metal slugged chips that had denominations stamped on them. I just wanted to tell the guy to order up some china clays and that would make your game soooo much better lol. I did notice in the background he had some Dunes CC for his tournaments that he said he got for next to nothing.

I brought my Donkwoods redbird for card protector which everyone loved, but looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned PCF. Fun night all in all, won $100, should of been much more but I will take it.

Once you cross the line there's no going back.

Having the same chips for two denominations would tilt the ever living shit out of me.

It was driving me insane. All of the guys were saying something about it. Apparently the solution next time will be using the $25 green as the quarter.

If he got them for next-to-nothing, I seriously doubt that they were china clays -- more likely the cheaper plastic injection-molded plastic version. Especially if he's using same-color chips for different denominations in other sets. Dunes are pretty high up on the china clay scale.

Welcome to the madness, just embrace it -- and remember that you'll always find understanding souls on PCF. Just wait until you fall into one of the really deep rabbit holes around here.....

Yeah your right, I forgot there are 2 different versions of the Dunes. I don't know if you can tell by these pics what they are---this is from their website, but the dunes are in play

I remember going to my first game after getting into chips. The guy had just gotten some of those crappy metallic shinny reflective slugged plastics and everyone at the game was all "oh these chips are amazing".... meanwhile I'm trying to gouge my eyes out and resist the urge to burst out laughing.

yep, those are the plastic Dunes. The quick way to tell the difference is the label. The plastic chips have a faux shaped inlay on the sticker (look at the hundo). Additionally, the CC chips have a larger label ~1 inch. The plastic Dunes were my first upgrade from dice chips.

Poker chip hell is sort of like a buddy asking you to help deal a poker table for his casino event company. Then finding out that the casino event utilizes approximately 20,000 shiny dice chips. Which, as one who is designated to help set up, you have to sort through.

Huh learn something new everyday here.....been around for over 3 years and never knew this

The plastic versions also all share the exact same edge spot design. The china clays have several different edge spots, although some are repeated. As Shaggy noted, the china clays all have 1" round labels vs the 'faux-shaped inlay' design of the plastics.
