Hello to whoever is reading this post, 1st off like to say I really enjoy playing poker with friends and fam, for money of course, and casino strangers. So I've decided to step up my game, and get a better table and a better set of chips, cards, to be a better host and provide a better experience like a casino. Just purchased a new property and they left me cool 12 by 12 shed that I'm gonna convert into my own poker saloon...(not man cave) I found a good table for a good price on offerup that I can customize and change , But when it comes to chips....well this is how I discovered poker chip forum. My 1st post title is "I got the green light", and what I mean to say is I've convinced myself 1st, and now my wife to let me invest a lil coin on a set of poker chips. Now being on the outside and looking in, it seems to me like Paulson is the way to go and could possibly retain or gain value. So I'm telling myself it's kind of like putting $800 into a savings account.lol... So yeah that's my limit 800 bucks I'm willing to do it! So if you have any recommendations or links I'm all finger tapping! Now....what should my next post be hmmmmm......thx!

Cash or tourney set?
Breakdown/stakes?

$800 isn’t going to get you something thst will make $5k in two years. But something in that range can get you chips you might really enjoy.

Search Jumers for various $200 racks of most denominations.

Search HSI - a great chipset to pull $1s from. 3 different variants, all of which can be nabbed for around $100 a rack.

If you want sets that match that are somewhat cheap, majestics are on the cheaper range. Cleveland chips are cheaper.

Not to push you out of your range, but if you get samples of various sets and check them out, you may find something you love and will keep for a long time (as well as be able to sell for cost at minimum) in the $2k total range.

Go to the home page and look at The Chip Room vendor to see previous sales and prices. He regularly does sales for cheaper than what you can buy normally - no clue if you’ll click fast enough and no remote idea on what condition your chips will be in - but taking a look will give you an idea of the best deals you can get.

WSOP last year provided opportunity for mint amazing Paulsons (Paris) at cost. It’s coming up soonish, so may be worth waiting/saving for. Just search Paris to see previous sales and some sets that came from that.

Best of luck, enjoy your journey.

Don’t get into this with dreams of making cash trading chips as a new member here with a budget below what it takes to buy 1 premium rack. I’m not being mean, I’m dead serious. Do this because you love chips and nothing more. Anything else is a fools venture unless you have resources to find chips that nobody else can or get a GPI buy. There are members here with computer programs that search all chip listing nation wide or broader.

Welcome aboard and have fun building sets.

Wait for the next Chip Room sale - your $800 will go the furthest there (the current classified sales almost all were initially sold by the Chip Room at less than what they’re being offered at now).

If you can’t wait, you can get a decent set of ceramics for well under $800 - whether Cards mold or through BRPoker.

It would also help to know whether you’re interested in cash or tournament chips, stakes, number of players, etc.

No worries, I appreciate the feedback. I do love the way casino chips feel soft and airy, You should see my elevator chip move. I'm pretty sure I invented it. Lol.

I’m curious if the 2023 WSOP cash game chips will be Paris again. I hope so but I fear they are going to use those nasty Horseshoe dregs…

I certainly hope not!!!

I just need a couple more racks of $1s, 1 rack of $25s, and 15 $100s to finish off my set!

I’ll still enjoy it, but won’t be the same if I can’t pilfer brand new, beautiful THCs.

What are your stakes? Basically, do you need fracs or fine with a $1/$1 and above set?
I just did a quick search looking for/through budget sets. Lots of Wanted Ads, not many for sale ads. The ones that do fit your price range tend to be tournament when they do exist.

A paulson cash set (fracs or not) at the $800 range all in is all but not going to happen.

As above, keep an eye out for the next Chip Room sale. When you gain access to classifieds post a wanted ad for budget Paulson cash set with an $800 limit and hopefully be prepared to pay $12-1400. This will open your options immensely.

Don’t lock yourself into Paulson lust so fast. There are lots of options and they may not be for you. Especially at the ridiculous prices they are going for now.

Get samples.

We play cash games, minimum buy is $100, so I'm pretty sure $1, $5, $25, $100, we don't get to high on buy ins, maybe 3k on a crazy night!

I'm thinking I can raise my budget to 1500, I saw a post for some legends of the west, those look nice.

If you aren’t familiar with how various things look or feel in person, samples are great to have on hand!

That set looks to be about $2 a chip. Leaded which is usually preferred by folks here, but solid color (no spots) and an oversized inlay (2 things not usually loved).

An example of a different set here at similar price range, $2-$2.50 a chip. Out of your price range, but you don’t need the whole set, could build a nice 800 chip cash set out of that.

My honest feedback? You won’t have a clue what you like until you’ve looked around and felt samples. Just….have an itch? Want something new since you got the green light? CARDS MOLD!

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/arias-card-mold-cash-700pc.98773/#post-2050042

Check that out. Awesome looking sets for
under $300. These are cheap chips we’ve recently been having made from a Chinese manufacturer. Great chips for the price, but don’t feel/wear well. Maybe grab something new but cheap now, while you test the waters and see what you like.

The nice part is when you do buy a nice set, you can simply keep these as a backup or easily take a small hit to easily sell them off.

And lastly, this is the type of thing I would think is best to go for with a hard limit on funds and wanting to test the waters with Paulsons.

Would have been able to put together a whole set, Paulson, generally pleasing to the eye and feels good enough, all for $1.50 a chip.

Hopefully all these links have given you some ideas, I’m outta here. Good luck!

Welcome and good luck. I've been an inactive member for a couple years. Just became active and bought a few racks to expand my set. Just be careful you don't get caught up in the FOMO attitude. It could cause you to buy and settle. I pulled the trigger on some 1s then discovered others that I like better so I may have to start making the move. Not sure yet. And I haven't even felted the 1s I purchased yet. Again, stay calm and good luck.

Cool are those Paulson

Nice, thanks for the advice.
