So I'm cleaning some PD chips, and ran across a couple broken ones. Now, sometimes chips get broken in transit, but most likely the chips were damaged when Jim received them (and Jim just didn't catch it). Not a big deal.

I received at least two broken chips thus far (from Jim). One red one, and one white. The thing that surprised me was the white chip had obviously been broken a long time ago, and the casino used scotch tape to secure both sides... lol. Really?

I've used super glue on a smaller "chip chip" before. The appearance was very good afterwards (Aztar Primary $1). I'm not sure I'd trust it on a situation where the crack is so central. Hold it in your hands and apply pressure for 60 seconds was my method. Try it for science?

Well dang . . .

In my experience there is no recovery. The set is effectively ruined with the two broken chips, so sick that it is those sweet Point Defiance chips. I recommend you buy a replacement set.

Though they're not all mine, I currently have around 2800 Point Defiance chips on my table right now... In the throngs of cleaning my portion now. I think the set can suffer a few broken chips.... I'm going to manage a nice $1/2 cash set when all is said and done.. I have more than enough chips for my needs, so I silently curse my friend for making me spend more money.. But we know chip collecting has nothing to do with "need"... So I'm also more than happy to have these beauties in my collection.

These suckers are cleaning up rather nicely, and the condition is very solid.

We are still light on $25's tho... ;).

I recommend crazy glue gel and tiny amounts so it doesn't squeeze out.

I used non-gel crazy glue and too much. :( Most of the excess did flake off though.

Wow 2800, nice. What breakdown did you end up getting?

Well, my set will include enough 1's, 5's and 25's to spread a decent 1/2 game. I don't have any of the $100's, or $.50 chips. But my co-hort in this venture is getting the lion's share of the PD chip horde.

I would also like to amend my earlier statement that these are cleaning up nicely. The fine-print is that although they are grimey, the good condition is actually making them harder to clean. I was able to more easily clean several other CR sale chips (Par-A-Dice, for instance), whereas these required a brief soak, then a couple quick circular scrub brush strokes on each side, then rinse (repeat). These PD chips being so new, have more cross-hatching, and it's taking a bit more elbow grease to get these clean... But once clean, they shine!

I've seen attempts to clean these with just a soak, and they really do require scrubbing...

I'll be attempting my cleaning soon. I did get an ultrasonic cleaner to get these cleaned up along with a few other racks I never bothered with before.

I ended up with a 600 set and I'm so damn pissed at myself that I didn't order more ones and fives...seriously, all I had to do was make the numbers bigger when I ordered and I wouldn't be sitting here thinking about how much I'm going to end up paying for the racks of ones and fives when ever it is I find some.

I also got a broken chip, but it was a 0.50 chip and I hope it was sent to me on purpose by Jim. I ordered a sample set to go with my order and after the shipping debacle I still ended up with a few .50, I thought I was getting zero so I was very happy to have what I got. With how many broke and getting some with the set I sincerely hope Jim included the broken one for my sample set, a repaired chip is going to be just fine for my future wall case.

I was going to go the super glue route (gel, thanks for the tip tommy), using as small amount as I feel comfortable with, then a little pressure for a few hours with a c clamp or something. I've pressed the chip together and I think with a little glue the line will be tough to notice by the average person who will see it.

LOL, @Tommy He moved this to poker chip maint. section.. Ha!!! My bad for not being more clear.

There was no ? at the end of my thread title. It wasn't a question on how to actually repair this chip. It's broken. It's a great example to pass around to friends about what a chip looks like on the inside..

My thread was intended as snarky commentary on a casino that actually used scotch tape to repair a poker chip? Wouldn't a casino just toss it? I can't believe someone taped it back together (on both sides), lol... Then put it back into play ;)

It's a great story, and good stories behind chips are about half of what chip/set collecting is all about. I'd frame it as-is.
