How to manually clean (safely) hotstamped chips (1 Viewer)

I think there were two different styles - old and new (a.k.a. the Avalon Club style). And my understanding is someone could place a custom order with Paulson (or Paulson seller) for different denoms or the Cards hotstamp on different chips, but using these fixed colors for the set. Like the California based color set with yellow $5s. Although I think the 'standard' denoms most commonly seen on the PCR chips are in the image of the New style chips below.

Edit -- here's an example of custom denoms, on different colored chips (500 & 5000) with the pink chip being the $0.25 chip from the Avalon Club line, if i'm not mistaken.

I think your right. The first several batches of chips I did were the Pharaohs. I used distilled water on them and they turned out great. The last several I did I used tap water. Didn't turn out as good. Tried to cut corners.

Here is another one.

Just got finished with cleaning and oiling close to 2400 PCR's. Took a few days, but they ended up turning out very nice. The 100's were the hardest. I had to clean them with dove soap, then erasing the spots still left and then washing them again. Thanks for the chips Mike.

Here's my request for pics! Also, did you find any cleaning methods or tips that worked (or didn't work), especially around the hotstamps?

These were pretty dirty to start with.

A couple I screwed up by soaking to long. Oo

I posted more pictures of my PCR's and Pharoah's on the PrOn .

Ouch.... if I could go a back in time I'd by 1000's of these things. Beautiful.

Lots of dirty water. They came out great with stamp intact! I did all my Grand Casino's this way all great.

Would like more info on cleaning PCRs/Avalons. With hotstamped THCs (mainly Starbursts), I’ve use a simple method of bathing/spinning the chips in warm water solution of 1.5 tablespoons of Lundmark faux-TSP per 8-9 cups of water.

I’ve found that if the hot stamps are in excellent condition, the faux-TSP does not degrade them at all. However, if the hotstamp is already abraded or fading (on Starbursts, typically from gold to silver or bronze), then the Lundmark may deteriorate the marred foil.

Anyone have any tips on this? I am going to try just 3-4 chips first as a test, but wondered what others’ experience is.

..........................

P.S. re.: denoms and nomenclature: From what I can tell, the various sellers of PCRs and Avalons were pretty loose in applying different denoms to the same chips... For example, my set includes five racks of the orange-yellow “v2” PCRs, denominated as 5s, which match the Avalon/PCR 1Ks, which also seem to have been issued as NCVs. I’ve likewise had white PCRs which had either 10 or 100 denoms, blacks with 20 or 100 denoms, and silvers which were either NCVs or 5Ks. It’s all extremely confusing.
