I was looking through the ChipGuide today and realized that lots of chips from Vegas casinos are notched if they were manufacturer samples or in the case of older chips they were notched as part of destruction. I saw that the 1998 Bellagio Chips are out there up to the 100k. I think these chips were recently added also. The aria has notched manufacturer samples up to the 100k. I’m just curious how people com across these. Thanks!

They are notched when removed from play usually due to a change in chips, damage to the chip, or when the casino closes similarly to a deck of cards. Its often hard to find them, but sometimes they end up in dealers pockets or cage workers pocket them, since they are removed from floor use. Sometimes they will notch or drill a few chips and sell them in the novelty store as well, but they generally have a no actual cash value description on them in some form to identify them from others, even with the notching or drilling.

David Sarles posts a lot of manufacturer's samples that are notched and/or drilled. Maybe he has contacts with employees of GPI. I don't know, I just appreciate the photos.
