I've replaced a bunch of labels for my Lakeshore Inn set, and decided to make a video documenting the process for anyone wanting to do the same so you can make a nice casino quality set of custom Paulsons for your home games. This approach works great for replacing Paulson inlays that have the vinyl label beneath the laminate. If you have older Paulsons (~1990s and earlier?) with the paper labels beneath, then it's more difficult, but with the newer style Paulson chips, this approach should work well.

The lamination comes up pretty easy. I think it depends on the chip. Sometimes it’s pretty hard.
Please make sure that you never cut into your trigger finger. I was pretty scared when I saw how you fix the chip. I know it need‘s some pressure to fix the chip, but I use the trigger finger and thumb from 9-11 o’clock and cut between these fingers from 10 o’clock to the middle. Maybe you give it a try. ;)

Great video, dude — really enjoyed watching. Would be great if there was a video section within resources on PCF, where all these sorts of videos on inlay replacement, oiling, cards, chip types and reviews (@Hobbyphilic) were compiled.

I'm going to be starting a video for YouTube this week looking at my chips, talking about the pros and cons of Paulsons — mainly as a basic 411 for newer chippers.

This video is great. I am gonna try this. I didn’t realize changing the inlays could be this easy. Very nice.

When u say some chips are harder than others, what makes the difference? Should I focus on certain types of inlays/chips if I want to create a custom set? Let me know. Thanks much.

I'm not sure if this is 100% the case or not, but if the inlay is textured with cross hatching like the face of the chip, then it probably has paper beneath the laminate and will be difficult to remove. But if the inlay is smooth with a glossy laminate, then it's probably vinyl beneath and should come up pretty easily with this method.

I'd argue that if the inlay is textured, people should leave them the hell alone! They're a precious commodity.

I have some chips with a silver fleck in them and the label adheres to the fleck and becomes difficult. Aztar 100 Evansville

It's all about the nail polish remover (non acetone). If your label doesn't come off easily after applying the nail polish remover, then you didn't apply enough of it. Just add more to it and let it soak, then wait. I've done hundreds of these labels now and I haven't had a single one that didn't just pop right off like the ones in the video. Sometimes I have to add more nail polish remover, sometimes 3 coats, but eventually they always give way and just come right off.

I use a medicine dropper and can do six-nine in a rotation. I’ve actually found that if it dries out too much the activation is actually regressive. Probably doesn’t actually happen but that’s the only way I can describe it. Just finished 700 this way although I don’t have the dental pic and just use the flat blade xacto knife. I also don’t go straight down on the initial cut I go at an angle to get under the inlay as sometimes you’ll get lucky and the inlay will come up with the cover.

Medicine dropper - Awesome idea!! Back to CVS. HAHA.

Would this work for the Gemaco Elite chips offered from Apache?

What about for hotstamping? Would save milling process.

Aren't those giant inlays? If so, then no you definitely don't want to remove them. If I'm wrong, then yes, it would probably work.

Great idea! Got a sub right here if you post the link when you upload :cool

What if that textured inlay has the image of a clover on it.

That chip deserved to be murdered

And they’re the most overrated football team in the history of, well, everything. And the fact that sportscasters are apologists for them makes it even worse. And their fans.... :vomit:
Can't argue with that. Though the current national team is the best we have had in a long time.

I meant Irish men in general, not some annoying college football team - I agree with all that. Except Rudy.

So, I case anyone wants to know, I completed my first chip felony today -22 counts. I only poked myself 3 times and cut myself once. A couple take aways.

1. Cutting on an angle is much better to get lift on the clear overcoat.
2. Once u get a corner of the overcoat lifted, It’s easiest to use a needle nose pliers and roll it back as opposed to pulling it back - much easier on the hands.
3. The nail polish remover is some nasty crap. I left it in a plastic cup, left the room for dinner, came back and that crap ate through the cup, leaked everywhere and ruined everything it touched. Don’t leave that stuff unattended and where gloves. And above all else - ask ur wife if u can use the remover!! Apparently, that stuff is like liquid gold and my wife went nuts when she saw me using it.
4. Eye dropper is awesome for applying remover to chips.

Hope this helps any new Chip murders out there. 20 down, 80 to go for me.

Good work!

Make sure you are using Non-Acetone nail polish remover, otherwise it can melt the chips.

So dauber has some pros and cons IMO. The potential is there just need to figure out the proper way to apply. Some times it was too much others not enough. I’m wondering if adding water to dilute npr will have any effect. I think it does discolor the chips just not as noticeable on the lighter colors. So for the darker the precision of the medicine dropper has benefits. However if I could figure out the pressure and or if diluted mix doesn’t discolor the dauber will be useful method and speed up the process. Maybe I just got too cocky after the first ten went well then tried to do 20 at a time which is over triple of what I do with the dropper. More trials will happen within the week.
