I have a number of barrels of samples that I want to get a feel for what they’re like once broken in. I’ve quickly given up on the idea of breaking clay chips in by shuffling them. I’ve shuffled a barrel for up to 10 hours with no visible wear on the edges or decrease in the height of the barrel. I assume chips take upwards of hundreds of hours of shuffling/play in order to feel broken-in, so I was wondering if anyone has tried any methods to artificially speed up the process. Anyone tried sandpaper?

This is PCF so just put some smooth rocks in the salad spinner you got for your ultrasonic cleaner

I would not introduce any abrasive like sandpaper. Since you’re trying to duplicate the wear of chips rubbing together, the only true solution is to rub chips together.
I remember years ago, someone on another forum placed large numbers of chips in a pillowcase and put them in the dryer on cool setting! I don’t recommend this...a tumbler or something similar is likely to chip and wear the edges faster than desired.
Unfortunately, I think the best way to replicate wear is to keep shuffling.

Sorry, but this makes no fucking sense. Why do you want to artificially destroy chips to "see what they are like" if you've already figured out that it's not likely to ever occur naturally in your own game? You are proposing to wear down chips for no good reason.

You wanna see what used chips from a casino are like, then just buy some used casino chips. If you're talking about CPC chips, don't bother -- it will take a LONG time for those to wear down.

WTF: Someone shipped chips to me just thrown in a box, lots of flea bites and roughed up chips...
PCF Reaction: Outraged

WTF: Throwing chips in a rock tumbler to artificially add wear, lots of flea bites and roughed up chips...
PCF Reaction: Genius, amazing!

This place cracks me up sometimes.

Obvious Answer: Just throw your chips loosely in a box (marked Fragile) and ship them via USPS across the country, same desired effect, f'd up chips.
or buy used casino bike tire chips to begin with.

Toss them in an USPS box and ship it to yourself...wait a few weeks and bingo

Just add hooker juice to your liking and you now have casino used chips

Ps. really guys...(rock) tumble dryer ? where is creativity in that ;)

rock tumbler?

I’ve used a rock tumbler on some super diamonds and diamond mold Paulsons. Used a mixture of different sized grit, Left one batch overnight, let another go for a day and a half. Didn’t do hardly anything to any of them.

This is the correct response.

This reminds me a bit of the Fender guitars “road worn” series, where they take beautiful new guitars and beat them up to look old and create “mojo”. Not a fan.

Yeah “relic’ing” guitars is a big deal. Nash Guitars’, MJT’s, and others’ whole business is based on it. I kind of like them, but I don’t want CPC to start offering a flea bite service for new chips. :D

Time to start a chip edge milling service. I'm gonna be rich!

The rock tumbler thing is actually an inside joke or a callback from a few years ago. I don't think anybody actually supports putting clay chips in a rock tumbler.

Yeah, I think @MD Mike or sombody asked a similar question a couple of years ago (with similar answers, which is why using the PCF search function is such a great and novel idea).

Yeah some said it as a joke & some took it seriously. I was called juvenile for calling people out on it as it could be taken as fact by newer users to the site.

Problem is when people make those kind of statements, some folks/newbies think you are stating factual information. And nobody bothers to use the search function to find answers then sift through everything to figure out what is real info or just an "inside joke".

Carry on though.
