How many different times do you think you have played poker in a casino? Do you enjoy playing poker in a casino setting or do you prefer playing at home with friends instead?

Probably about 20 times in my life, couple things I like about casino vs home game is the variety of players, different attitudes, styles, etc. casino has a more professional setting with a dedicated dealer. But home has advantage of playing with friends mostly and lower stakes than the casino.

Never. I've only been to a casino twice (once in Windsor, once to Lac Leamy), and wasn't overly impressed. That was back in the mid-90's, though. I play the game more to have a social event with a group of buddies. A casino game would probably be too serious for my tastes, and an opportunity to lose a pile of $$$ that would be better spent on other pursuits.

I've lost count. This year I've been trying to go once a week but I do miss weeks occasionally. I'd rather play at the casino than at a home game. At least I know I'm in a safe place and that rules will be enforced. If I don't like the table I'm at I can pick up and find another, If I go on a sick run and want to pick up and leave I can without listening to other players tell me "30 more minutes" or something like that. The home games I have access to are all basically underground games that are raked ridiculously high and every home game has their own rules. Some of which I'm not cool with. For that reason I'd rather go to a casino where I will get comp points, access to jackpot promos, and usually a much better experience.

I know what you mean. Any time I go to a home game now, we all agree to play to a certain time and anything after that is pick up and leave when you want.

I have a more enjoyable experience, playing at home with friends instead. I never really got the hype of playing in a casino.

Honestly, I've lost count. Either that or I'm getting old. Seriously, I've been to Vegas and Reno a number of times. Ditto resorts on Native American lands.

I've never played poker at a casino. In college we hosted weekly poker games and years later I resurrected our poker games and now host monthly poker games with all my old college buddies. I am going to Vegas in Nov for Sema Aapex though so I'm planning to play some poker at several casinos.

free booze, professional dealers, comfy seats, safe games, pick up and leave whenever you like, bad beat jackpots, bonuses, promotions, comps............

Don't know that exactly but not that much. It's more a game to be played with friends for me, in casinos it's more blackjack and roulette.

Not all casinos have free booze - several have you pay for drinks (Casino Arizona and Parx are the two that come to mind that I've played at). Also, some would argue that BBJ is a detriment to live casino poker, not a benefit, given how much comes out of each pot.

Anyway, I play about 30 times a year in the casino, almost always cash games. I only play 2 tournaments really - the day after Thanksgiving and whenever an Omaha-8 WPT event comes to town.

I have all these except comps at my weekly game. ;)

I used to play at the casino at least 4x/week for two or three years running, but now maybe go once a month. I just enjoy a good home game so much more.

I'm pretty evenly split time wise between casino and home games, though the home games are spread evenly through the year and the casino games are in binges (due to location). The two are different animals.

Casino Pros:
  • Free Drinks (if a casino does not have free drinks, it's time to go)
  • Professional
  • Safer
  • I don't feel guilty eviscerating a fish at the table

Casino Cons:
  • Rake
  • Occasional a$$hole

Home Pros:
  • Social/Friendly
  • Geographically closer to home (usually at my home)

Home Cons:
  • Non-standard rules drive me friggin' nuts.

Easily 30-50 times, but that's because Foxwoods and Mohegan always been within 1.5 hours of me. You should probably include card rooms that aren't at your home but are also not in a traditional casino setting either.

As far as preference, I generally prefer a home game (no rake, no travel from my house) but unfortunately my friends mostly only play Hold Em and I prefer Omaha hi/lo, Stud 8 or better, Badugi, triple Draw, etc. and in those instances I prefer the casino setting.

Casino - maybe 10x in my life, tops (though a few of those covered multiple casinos over multiple days.) Like Poker Zombie, I am geographically challenged in this respect...

Home games - 2-3x per week for the last 9 years or so, occasional before that. Just as well - a good, well-run home game with friendly people in a safe environment blows away any casino, any day. The challenge is always finding the right one(s) for you - every home game is different, and there's no such thing as a game that will be perfect for everybody. I'm always on the lookout for new games to try. :)

Probably 30-40 times, but not recently. Before my last move further north of Chicago, I used to play at Horseshoe Hammond, Ameristar/Harrah's, Trump, and Majestic Star, but I haven't been to an Indiana casino since 2008. My favorite game was 5/10 O8. Still is, come to think of it. No way will I play at the local Illinois casinos with their $8 rake.

Since 2006 I've been playing in home games nearly every weekend, some of which I host. I prefer home games with friends because they're more social and generally a lot more fun.

One of the local charitable games circuits has started spreading 6/12 O8 with a 10/20 kill and a reasonable rake ($4 + 1). I've been there a few times -- would play there more often if they spread O8 on the weekend.

About once a month at best.. nearest casino is about an hour away up the highway... there is 1-2 game in my city at the racetrack but it's one of those God awful virtual tables. Might as well stay home and play on stars
