That you were done spending money on chips?

I was talking to someone at my club championship last week. I was telling them how I expected to have my 1,000 chip set of 8V's done for the tourney, but the labels have been floating in the ether somewhere. I told him thank god that I have the other tourney set, so everything went off without a hitch. He couldn't believe that I am going to have two tournament sets. I then pointed out that I have 3 cash sets too and a set of non denom plastic vegas chips for the kids to throw around. He asked, and I think it was half jokingly, are you done?

That got me thinking, once these get done, I'll have two full tourney sets, 3 cash sets, a junk set, a seating chip set, 4 setups of cards, 6 dealer buttons, 3 tables and one hot dog roller. I think I am done spending money on poker for the time being. Of course I want to redo that rail, and I'm all over the @desjgn 4 color set when it comes out, but I can't think of anything else that I really need.

So my question is, how many times have you said that you weren't going to spend any more on poker for a while? Part two, how long did you actually stick to it? I'm curious as to the collective willpower around here....

I don't even want to think about honestly answering this question. It makes my head hurt and I just don't want to think about them money I've spent.

...And willpower??? Well i can resist ANYTHING...except temptation  :ROFLMAO:

Ya.. well I have acquired many sets that triggered the “now, im Done” mantra.

I snagged a bazillion Milano’s (probably 3,000 at one point). And that was my first real chip purchase. I was done.

Then I got a fever for a set of real Paulsons. I worked hard and acquired my dream Paulson set with my Benny’s Riverside chips. Even finding the perfect quarter to relabel.

Surely I was done..,

Then came a need for a real tourney set, so I created my fat tire tourney set. NOW i was done.

Then came an opportunity to snag a dream set of mint Horseshoe chips from Jim through a trade. Then came the realization that given what these were selling for and my current financial situation, I had to let them go... but definitely my nicest set to that point. For a few fleeting moments, I was happy and content. And done.

Then came a couple chip Opportunities I didn’t know I needed. First a set of E&C chips that I use as a travel cash set. Love these. And also a limit set of ASM chips, which have yet to get into play...

I was fortunate enough to have the Opportunity to participate in a portion of the boat venture which netted a nice set of AS tourney chips, I was almost certainly done with chip Purchases. Right? In actuality I think these are some of the most beautiful tourney chips ever made, but when running a tourney, I always go back to my FT set. I like it more (personal preference).

Well, all along (ever since my FT tourney set) I had a nagging desire to create a cash companion set. While pondering the concept in one of the many design threads I created, I believe it was @BGinGA that said something that stuck, that the existence of the cog inlay meant the FT cash set was destined to be made, and to make it happen... that stuck with me, so I saved and designed for two years until I finally placed the order for my FT cash set.

My chipping journey had come to an end... or did it. A total impulse buy (and one I could barely afford) led me to chips I HAD to own.. I snagged a small set of these and haven’t regretted it one bit. Amazing chips. I didn’t need them but I am glad I own them. And unlike the AS tourney set that takes a back seat to my FT tourney set, these actually see use. I’ve polled some of my regulars for a game tonight, and due to the WI connections to these chips, these are a fan favorite. My crew voted 100% to use them tonight.

So I am definitely done buying chips Now. Guaranteed

I’ve been a big fan of your fat tire set(s) since I first saw them. Your $1000 is redonkulious! I’ve bought AS and ES cash sets recently. Just wish I’d been more active during the endeavor. I would have been able to afford 3 times as many and have gotten the tourney set(s), but I’m working on it I suppose

Thank you for the kind words. You can always make a chip meetup in the area. Maybe the WCB in Chicago? Im Sure @Jeff could be convinced to allow the FT cash set to make a guest appearance again. ;).

I used to say that. Now I know better. :)

This hobby isn’t really one based on “need”. The hedonistic cycle is real though. Fun ability to upgrade upgrade.

I'm curious as to the collective willpower around here...

I gauge it someone between my dogs ability to not eat a hot dog that falls on the floor and my other dogs ability to not bark when the ups guy rings the doorbell.

Well, I THOUGHT I was done after acquiring sets of these:

245953

...but then CPC put out these things called "tri-moons" and thus motivated me to order an add-on (due in May). Also, I have the idea to add 1000's and 5000's to the dragons to allow for standard tourney denoms.

In addition, my crew has discussed upping our limits. If so I'd need to add about 200 monacos to accommodate.... thus I'm not done there either.

The ABC's are perfect as they are.

Will I add other sets? Possibly.

I still want a set of custom Matsui's, and I have an idea for another CPC set but that's at least a year away. On the latter I'd be more motivated to pull the trigger depending on more new spot patterns and new colors (if any).

Would I get a Paulson set at this point? The ONLY one's I'd even consider would be AS Hotstamps (my favorite paulsons of all time). Would have to save a few pennies first though.

I can see it already, I will be perfectly content, sitting on the sideline, looking at all the PrOn, talking about tourney setups, reading hand strategy. Then out of nowhere, @ABC Gifts and Awards will put out some sort of crazy deal and I will feel like an idiot for missing it, so I'll be back in.

There's a lot of FOMO, especially when I look in the classifieds. I have a fully functional cash and tourney set but I always wanted a Tiki Kings set and when one popped up for a good price, I bought it. Same with Burro's. Then Tommy offered the PCF promo set and I snap called those too. And Royal Yaks... it's never ending.

Done? Whatcha mean, "done"?

It's not about the destination, folks. It's ALL about the journey. Acquire, enjoy, disperse (optional), rinse-repeat.

There is no 'done' in chipping, except chipping done properly. :)

yes, I'm coming to learn this.....like if @Toby or @Chippy McChiperson offered a set of Big Top Cash chips for a reasonable price, well how in the world could a reasonable person say "nah, I'm done"? not possible (not for me anyway  :ROFLMAO:).

Thought this would be enough

When this one is full I have to be done right?

Truth is I have a few ideas of sets I’d like and then maybe I’m done. But essentially four tournament sets five cash sets should be enough. So I should stop, unless the bucket list sets come up.

Scared to think how many sets I’d have if BCC TRK and Paulson had consumer products still.

i dont understand this thred

Stopping!?!? WTF?!?!

I have a paulson relablel tourney set a paulson cash set 1500 china clays, lots of misc paulson racks and 2 slugged throw away sets. I used to have 3 but i threw away the chips and housed some of my paulsons there.

im just starting out...

Stopping is just crazy talk.

I think I went cold Turkey from 2009 to 2013, had three sets and all was good. Then I found out that PCF took all the traffic from chiptalk and started looking here. Then buying. Sigh......

Like any collectors hobby, it's never over unless you get bored and no longer want to pursue it. Other than that I don't see how one can stop. What I will say is that your taste for quality will change.
