Hi folks,

Finally building myself a poker table. I am hosting a cash game later this month and wanted to know how many players I should seat at one time. The table is standard oval without a chip rack. Is measures 86x43.

Most 84” tables with ten cup holders are quite unpleasant to seat 10. I would go 8 for 86”, 10 at 96”. Everyone has a different take though.

Set my table (~83x47) to be 8max, couldn't imagine playing cash with more. 6/7 is ideal when playing mixed games.

My table is 94 x 49 and 9 is the comfortable fit for it. 10 could fit in a squeeze but playability wise 10 isn't ideal.

For our mixed games we do 7 or 8 max. Since we mostly play mixed games now instead of Hold em, I feel like my table is a bit bigger than it needs to be. On a table of your size the dimensions are similar to a Barrington table so I think 8 max would be a comfortable amount of people.

Sorry to revive an old thread but both you and another poster recommended less players for a mixed game. As someone new to hosting games, why is that?

For mixed games, you have more cards in play so not enough for 8 or 9 players for games where each person is dealt 5 cards and there 2+ boards or draws

I have an 84 x42 and it sits 8 comfortably.

This is the truth.
I agree that 10 at an 84” or an 86” would be on the right side.
But on the other hand, so many people here are saying that 8 is comfortable for that size, and I find 8 players comfortable at my 66” x 44”.
A lot of it has to do with expectations and what people are used to. But a lot of it has to do with size as well. The 8 people who sit comfortably at my table usually average under 200 pounds. I think a lot of PCFers are either seating a lot of big guys at their tables, or they’re just space whores. Or both.
