Resting rack bottoms on top of chips bothers me a little bit despite my knowledge of weight distribution. What if there is one uneven chip? Worried about those molecules. Do you stack racks and for you how high is too high?

Yeah guess i better stop worrying. Need to keep in mind that chips are stronger than steel.

My chip closet handles up to 10 racks high (per shelf) with no issues or worries. Proper fitting racks is the key -- loose chips in a rack are much more likely to get damaged.

I have seen som pictures of racks with a tiny plastic "chip" on the end of each barrel to make the chips fit better in racks that are too big. Is this something that can be bought, or is it just some improvised stuff? I am curious because the cheap racks I am currently using are a bit big and fit 21 chips to a barrel or 20 pretty loosely.

Also another question about storing chips: Is it OK to store chips on top of each other in 50-60 high stacks, pyramids or other shapes, instead of using racks? This is obv not very convenient if the chips are being used regularly compared to storing them in racks, but my question is if it is safe for the chips or if they can get hurt by leaving them in towers for a long time. Lets say I have a set I dont use a lot and want to keep it in this kind of structure on a shelf in my poker room as "art", would that hurt the chips long term?

I have my Even Stevens stacked 12 racks high - all others 8 racks or less. Mostly it is a function of shelf space on my desk, not out of concern for the chips.

These are called "spacers"... just google "poker chip spacers" and you'll find several places to buy them.

^ that ^
I see them stacked 10 high in the cage at work all the time. Looks like the shelving is designed for 10 high

10 High, That is crazy, I'm not sure I would go much more than 5. My kids ruin the chips enough. Don't need to do it myself. Haha.

I think like some others on this thread, for paulson's rack it's 5 for me.. But for B&G's racks .. il put 8 to 10 racks with no problem !
