Background: As I've just mentioned in another thread, when i host we play three one and a half hour games. It's a social occasion more than a skill showcase. No one has to wait too long until the next game (they're not fans of cash games). The blinds go up quick.
Anyway, i was thinking how the chip breakdown we use (eight each of 25's, 100's and 500's totalling T5000 each, 100 bb) is perfect for this game, but might not be if we were going to have a longer game of maybe three hours or more.
My question, therefore is this: assuming the number of players and the T5000 remains the same, do the chip breakdowns per player change the longer the game is? For example, would a six hour tourney (with much longer blinds) neccesitate more lower value chips? I'm thinking I'd need at least 12x 25's and 100's per person, reduce the 500's from 8 to 7.
NB I'm working within the constraints of my CPS set, which has:
125x 25
125x 100
80x 500
Way more than i need x 1000
Ditto x 5000
(As an aside, this could stretch to 20 players if they only had 6x 25's and 100's - is that too few...? Thought so).
