I have a very nice set of label TH&C chips that I don't think I'll ever sell.
But I'm considering breaking off a couple of barrels of my $5s if they can fetch a good price.
I've de-labeled some in the past and it can be done with little to no damage to the chip.
But I can really advertise them as never labeled.
What kind of hit should I expect to take on the price? I guessing that un-labeled this chip
would sell in the $5 range.

just to clarify, you overlabeled them, right? Overlabel = slap a label over the existing original laminated inlay

Yes, just a simple overlay sticker. Just a wee bit of torture....no murder here.

If you peel the labels and wash away any residue it shouldn't affect the price.
If you sell them with the labels on and someone has to do the work they may not want to pay a premium but my guess would be it won't affect the overall value

That case, when you peel the sticker off just use a little alcohol to remove any leftover residue and there will be no evidence it was ever there.

To me, i would pay the same for the same chips overlabeld or original. Not everyone is going to feel the same, but the time involved in removing overlabels is pretty minimal

I’d pay more for a chip if I didn’t have to remove an overlabel from it.

But on the other hand, if the overlabel is something I desire…I’d pay more for it than a chip that would require me to do the overlabeling myself.

So it kinda depends on the situation. If yours are custom labels instead of casino knock-offs and you are trying to extract max value…I’d just remove them from the barrels you sell to make sure it isn’t a factor.

Depends on the chip. Some it can hit a ton with, some I would see it as a benefit. It all depends if someone is seeking them for a mixed set or a custom set. Generally I think you can get 90-95% for a delabeled rack.

I wouldn’t care at all, as long as the sticker comes off without damaging the original inlay
Your post reminds me that there are a few chips where the laminate is pretty loose to start with and removing overlabels from those can occasionally cause the laminate to come up. For most chips out there this will never be an issue, but for a few it can happen. HSI & JACK Cinci are two sets of chips where it could happen pretty easily

Right, I’ve heard of some chips where that might be a problem. My only experience is with a rack of THC LCOs and there were no damage to those inlays

I would imagine the kash/full tilt chips would also have that issue. Some of those inlays just fell out on their own

I think newer IHC chips are also more prone to the inlays coming off.

Turns out my question was premature. I opened the case to take pics and found a few
barrels that I never labeled:)

So you're the type of guy that counts down his chips like he is going to push all in, and then fold?

Because I'm not afraid to jerk off the game like that =P

I never count my chips
When I'm sitting at the table
There'll be time enough for counting
When the dealing's done.

I know when to hold em, know when to fold 'em.

This reminds me. The whole narrative of the song is that an old destitute (and apparently terminally ill) grinder is trading vague advice for a drink of whiskey.

Why would anybody listen to advice given by some random alcoholic destitute grinder?

I might....hmm...that explains alot.
