I plan on implementing Bomb Pots into my Texas Holdem home game because I like the idea and want to spice up my games. Since I never really played one and only saw them on YouTube I'm not really sure, how they work or how you implement them smartly. Any advice would be greatly apreceated! :D

Everybody puts in x amounts of dollars. Then the cards are dealt out, then straight to a flop. Then betting ensues.

We sometimes set a timer and every 30 minutes we will do a PLO double Board $2.00 bomb pot.

Set a timer and when it goes off it's bomb pot time. Every 30-45 minutes is probably reasonable. Or say top of each hour or whatever. Or whenever someone shows pocket Kings or Aces, you can be as creative as you want.

Everyone puts the pre-determined amount in the middle, deal everyone a hand, and deal the flop. Continue on as usual starting with post-flop action.

Ah, yes! How to implement them smartly riddle.

Sometimes it makes them easier to understand if you think of them as a family pot where everyone has to put in an ante pre flop. No betting pre, only the predetermined amount per player then go straight to a flop.

After that the hand plays out normally.

haven't played many bomb pot circus games but @manamongkids would do a $10 (Everyone MUST participate) every hour playing orbits of PLO/HE. 1/1

Everyone puts $10 in. Deal out the hole cards and the flop. Then the betting starts.

If its 8 or 9 handed game. Typically anyone betting into that pot will usually have massive holdings.

I do no less than one bomb pot at the end of the game for last hand of the night. 5 big blinds in preflop.

A second one is sometimes played and awarded. A bomb pot chip or token is awarded to the first player of the night that shows a winning boat or better. That player can deploy it whenever they please for the rest of the night.

Is action on the normal actor? does someone miss a blind? is someone just the first to act in the bomb pot and then in the next normal deal?

Great questions, does someone with experience with bomb pots have any advice/insights on these?

Whenever the bomb pot is played, the button moves as it usually would. The blinds luck out a little bit since they are already putting money in.

When I play my cash game the way I play it, the player with the bomb pot chip usually will throw it in when they are on the button or in a blind.

I think the easiest way to explain a bomb pot is to imagine that the first person to act at the very beginning of the hand raised to X amount, and then every person at the tabled called and everyone sees the flop. What happens next is just like any other hand, the first person left of the dealer can check or bet.

The act of a bomb pot is just fast-forwarding through this imaginary scenario and going straight to post-flop action.

another fun way to determine when to do a bomb pot is to have a specific card/or card that, if it shows up on the flop, the next hand is a bomb pot

love the idea with the specific card!!!

Our bomb pots are a bit different..... u can use any amount of money but I will describe ours. Everyone who wants to be in puts up $50. Each person is dealt 5 cards. The dealer the deals 2 flops (2 separate boards). Anyone that wants to continue playing can bet up to $450 (which is the max total). Typically people just put in the entire $450. The dealer then proceeds to deal the turn and river for each board. The best 5 card hand (using 2 from ur hand) wins each board (split pot game). Sometimes one person scoops. If for some reason nobody bets after the flop or bets less that $450, then only the turn is dealt for each board and betting resumes before the river is dealt.
you can use any betting amounts you want. for example, you can do $10/$40 for a total of $50 or $2/$8 for a $10. whatever You want.

Dang that's really weird but also sounds really fun! I will definitely propose this idea to my players and let them decide. Looking forward to hearing their thoughts on bomb pots once I implemented them

Bomb pot in action......

“Fun” bomb pot story from Parx Casino in PA two summers ago.

Table has been talking about doing a bomb pot and everyone but one player seems into it. Explanation/debate continues to ensure until eventually the final player is convinced to jump in. I happen to be on the button, obviously a better spot to be for any bomb pot. We are 8-handed in a $1/3 $500 game and I have ~$600 effective.

Look down at my cards: AA - decent so far. Best position, best starting hand, $80 in the pot, though obviously we tread very carefully in a bomb pot (or any pot with 8 players to the flop).

Flop: A95 rainbow (decent flop).

SB leads for $20, kid in the bb calls, folds around to me, they both seem so weak that I decide that raising now will probably win me the $120 easily but nothing more than that, I decide to flat since I have position and can dictate terms on any blank turn.

Turn: J (so far so good - $160 in the pot).

SB checks, kid in BB now bets $80 and I decide to just end it here or, ideally cooler the kid hoping he has two pair or maybe even bottom set or something. I actually end up shoving to make it look weaker, putting ~$500+ into the middle, the Sb snap folds and the BB starts to wonder out loud:

“I really don’t think you have anything here... really feels like a bluff” (plan is working perfectly, I LOVE bomb pots!)... “I’m praying for a call and actually have my phone ready to record because it will be a juicy pot (one of the largest I will have ever played in a casino).

“ok, I don’t think you have much, I call” - ok the kid is drawing dead I assume vs the mortal nuts. I take my phone out as the river is an offsuit K - beautiful card. I reach to press record on my phone and from the corner of the table I hear the words “I hit the straight!” - shocked I look over, catching the dealer pushing the pot over to the kid. I’m so confused and am about to inform the dealer that he made a mistake when I realize that the kid floated the flop with nothing, picked up the straight draw on the turn, and called 2.5x shove with just Q high (he had QT offsuit).

Literally never felt so sick at the table. So yeah... love bomb pots!

to be honest this just sounds like always playing PLO to me :p

One thing I forgot to mention, given that everyone gets 5 cards and there are 2 boards, only 8 people can do a bomb pot. If more than 8 are sitting at the table someone has to sit out. A lot of times not everyone wants to participate so the issue is avoided.
