Hey fellas. I’m new and have a question on the HSI Secondary 1s. I was told that both these 1s are HSI Secondary. What am I missing. ? They are not the same. The beautiful set above is for sale and as I look to add it to my smaller set. I noticed the 1s don’t match ? Any help would be appreciated. Ty.

The HSI secondary $1s came in two versions. The one with the three spots on the edge that you're holding is known as the secondary $1. The one in the picture on your screen with the smaller 1/8" edge spot is the secondary $1a.

So there is 2 HSI secondary 1s. Good to know. Thank You. Which is the harder to find or more valuable chip.? And why is there 2 versions of the 1s ? One more Question. Is there any other chip in the HSI secondary that has a double like the 1s? TY

Welcome to the forum man!

Many local Vancouver area members on here. I'm in Mission myself.

As @BearMetal mentions, there are 2 versions of the Secondary HSI $1. I also agree the $1A don't match well with Secondary $5.

I got both. I'll use the $1A in a future set I plan to build someday. Happy hunting! You can get pretty much unlimited quantities of either.

Thanx for all your info guys. I never knew all this chip stuff. Its amazing. I always thought someone must collect chips but had no Idea how big it was. Im hooked. I have a 1600 piece HSI Secondary Minty set (missing the .25s) and (1000s up). The 2.50 are actually Primary i think but will grab a snapper rack or 2 just for the set. I also have a 1600 piece HSC Primary set in real good condition which I plan on using when I get back up and running my games again. I have a 10 table tournament every week. Well did before covid. So I am looking for a massive tournament set too. One of my Besties just bought a beautiful Cincinnati WSOP Tournament set. I dont know if I will ever be able to afford a set big enough for my needs lol. Love this chip collecting thing. I find myself down the Rabbit hole way to often. Need to get back on the tables. Need my Vaccine first as im one with underlying health issues. Stay safe everyone and nice to meet you all

Dang bro! 10 table tourneys! Can I be invited!!?! Wowzers! Incredible

This chip collecting is absolutely nutty and there are a fair amount of fellow nutty chippers right here in your hood. @allforcharity @grantc54 @realcdn @LotsOfChips @Bradley @Racer96 @Lemonzest @Frank @Pippa are just a few that I've personally played with or hosted for games at my own place.

I've played with all of the above at any one of the famous @T_Chan's games.

Hope we can meet someday and dive into this crazy hobby.

So what I'm hearing here is that I need to move to Canada...

By the way, I do agree that the HSI secondary 1A does not work very well with the HSI secondary $5. I've paired the 1a up with my primary $5 for my cash set.

Vancouver is the Black hole of poker. Really there is no Casino tournaments anymore. Precovid A 10am right down town on week days and on the weekends. The same time. If your not there by 830am. Your not playing. Half the casinos don’t even have poker anymore. So the underground scene is massive. But they conduct raids all the time. So it’s very dicey. My events have been running 12 years. We invited the gaming commission to our first and got all the rules from them on what we can and cannot do. And there is a lot. But you can host tournaments if you follow the rules. Cash games. Not so much. Not on the scale we run out tournaments anyways. We have been closed since April. ;(

Looks fantastic bro! I really wanted to do the same. So I'm jealous if that set you got sitting behind in the pic ...very nice man
Thanks Nav! The HSIs really grew on me; one of my favorite sets. Some members hated the inlays. I don't get it; I think they look pretty damn good.

Wow you guys have some sweet sets. I love these chips. My fav chips are the Sunset Beach but I dont think ill ever be able to afford them. They are my Dream Chips...

This sounds like a job for Custom Ceramics!

EDIT: (or the biggest "Grail Set" ever assembled.)

Dream sets... So close yet so far. SBs are definitely hot. Everyone's got their own idea of their dream set. Don't get too hung up on it. Find chips that fit your price range and style and just enjoy them. Over time, the sickness will grow and you'll trade up too those SBs

Lol. I love my HSI secondaries. I’m good. I just am making a deal for some .25s and 2.50s. I think I’ll be good then. Lol.

You're going to find that the $0.25 chips are extremely expensive and hard to shake loose from people. Some people here have relabeled a Santa Ysabel $1 chip as an HSI frac. I got to say, it really works and it saves a buttload of money.

I am in the middle of a deal as we speak for 2 racks of .25s and 1 rack of 2.50s. Yes expensive. But needed for my set. ;)

also worth noting, as i didnt know and was a bit surprised when i got mine

the HSI secondary 1 is "off" white with the 3 spot color plum
the HSI secondary 1a is white with the 4 spot color purple

Two comments in this thread about the $1a’s not matching or working with secondary $5’s. Hmmm. I bought a secondary set but specifically requested the secondary $1a’s instead of “regular” secondary $1’s. The “matching” part never occurred to me and I’m not getting that point. Is it spot size? In general I think a 312 edgespot pattern (unless it’s 3 different colors such as a LeCove $5) is the most boring of all, so might be my personal dislike of that pattern.

Well,

Each person will have an opinion...

I own 400 x $1 and 400 x $1A. Love em both. The $1 is obviously a different shade of white. Off White as it has been referred to. Like white with a bit of maroon mixed in.

The "not matching" part for me, is the 418 spots progression into the 412. Just doesn't suit my fancy. Additionally, I find the color of the spots clashes too much with the sec $5. Just my opinion.

Yup, couldn't have said it better myself. 418 -> 412 is a little odd. I've never been a spot progression snob (far from it actually), so for me it was also the color. The bright white/light purple goes better with the bright red off the primary $5 better than the darker/less contrast of the secondary $5. I think the off white/plum of the secondary $1 works better here.

At the end of the day, it's preference and there's nothing wrong with mixing and matching. The S$1, S$1a, P$5, S$5 are all hot.

Hey everyone. I’m a new chipper too, and new to this site. I realize there are 2 HSI secondary $1s, but WHY would the casino do that? It doesn’t look like Cincinnati has a secondary $1 or $5 at all, which I assumed meant that the casino wasn’t worried about a large dollar amount being stolen, but maybe that has nothing to do with it. But still, why two secondary $1s but not the other denominations?

I feel blessed you mentioned me as your bestie !!!
now let’s all play some cards already !!!

Casinos are known to keep an entire secondary set of chips. If chip security is threatened, they can recall all chips on the floor and replace with a different set ready-to-go.
