I plan on trying this out when my MSK plaques first come in...

The general idea is very simple:
-Establish a stupidly upscale dress code for the night (Jackets and ties for the men, fancy dinner dresses for the ladies, bonus points for the James Bond bowtie...)
-Multiply the chip values to turn your low-stakes donkfest into a multi-million dollar cash game ($0.50-$1.00 becomes $500-$1,000 for example)
-Fire up the kitchen and prepare some fancy snacks and hors d'oeuvres

seems like a fun way to break the monotony of the weekly cash game and spice things up a little...

So, for a year, we would do cash games on odd holidays..... Canada day? We play Canadian Dollars. Cinco De Mayo? We played 10/20 Pecos.

I think this idea would be fun once, but then get old very quickly.

I think it's a cool idea, I would love it. But I agree it shouldn't be done too often.

Our poker club does a casino royal mtt event (T20k i belive) in the carnival season every year. Everyone needs to wear a suit or dress (no male dress wearer till now) in order to participate. In the end its the same people with just different clothing. In my home game one girl always wants to do this, but the majority just dont want to wear a suit after business hours, so i had not sheduled a private round in this theme.

What a great idea.
Get away from the usual t shirts, cargo shirts, and flip flops.

If you’re looking for opinions, I think it’s a terrible idea. One of the great things about home games is dressing comfortably like a slob. If I want to dress presentably, I’ll go to the casino. If I want to wear a suit I can go to work. And pretending to play for high stakes - I don’t see the appeal. We all know what we’re playing for.
(But if you weren’t looking for opinions, I’ll just say that fancy snacks sound good to me)

I think this is fantastic for an annual-type deal, Everyone looks sharp, too.

Sincere question, since the dollars aren't that different, how does the Canada day work? Calculate the exchange rate at buy in ($20 USD gets you $27 CAD in chips? Then calculate back on chip out? Seems like a PITA. I do hope you play the Canadian Anthem before the start of the game (standing with hats off)!

It's probably normal denoms... the only difference is that whenever you win a pot, you apologize to the others at the table...

It was a huge pain in the ass. But, it was a good laugh

I think it is a great idea to do once. Possibly annually.

We did “Stupid Hat Night” once. No admittance unless you were wearing a hat, baseball caps didn’t qualify. Kinda’ fun playing across from some guy in a 10-gallon cowboy hat (I’m in New York). And I can tell you a top hat looks super-dumb with a Hawaiian shirt. Which was of course the whole point.

I like it! It's always nice to see people dress up for a special event. Even in the better times (non-pandemic), there were few enough reasons to dress up to get together. People have gone all-out for the James Bond-themed casino parties, especially all the ladies. When you're used to seeing everyone in uniforms or scrubs all day, it can be quite a shock to see them in even normal clothes, never mind all dolled-up.

My first attendance at a new home game, this was going on. Buddy messaged me in advance, enough time for me to find a fake Russian military furry hat that my son recently used for a Hallowe'en costume.
