Home Game Chip Breakdown Theory (1 Viewer)

@Legend5555 I'm probably gonna sound like a broken record here, but I think you could drop those ones (even in a 10 player game) to about 300 and add more 5's. It just makes your game more flexible.
Believe me I thought about that exact thing, but the game will be primarily .25/.50 NL and 1/2 limit. I just can't see getting more than 2k in play with my group. And I hate making change in limit games. If this was only NLHE, I wouldn't want this many 1's either. If I have to buy more, I will. But I'm not getting anything pricier than China Clays for this. So easy to get more if I need them.

Thoughts on the multiples?

I asked a similar question elsewhere: I’m planning on denim’s of 1/5/25/100
But when watching WSOP I noticed that coloring up amounted to a rack of X = the new colored up chip. So maybe it should be 1/5/20/100 bc
1x20=20
5x20=100

But I prefer to have classic green ‘quarters’

Maybe the racking up is more important for tourneys?

Idk, but the denomination progression is another aspect worth analyzing - one I’m currently wresting with

Thoughts?
You can do whatever you like, though 20's are typically a cash game chip.

If you are only running tournaments, have you considered having the 100 as your smallest chip? And using the WSOP circuit structure?

Over twenty years of weekly hosting, I finally settled on 300 x $1 and 300 x $5 as ideal for one table, no matter how the game played. And it sometimes had over $4K on the table...

So for the ultimate flexibility, my sets became:

.25 - 200
$1 - 300
$5 - 300
$20/25 - 100
$100 - 100

... and that's still my target for every cash set.

I personally prefer 25's myself. I love the green 25's (although recently I've been looking at a semi custom set that might compose of blue quarters, black one's, red fives, and white 20's). I personally think denomination progression is more of a tourney thing simply because in cash games, the blinds don't go up so there's no real need to take a certain chip off of the table. That's just logical reasoning for me, I am by no means an expert on the situation.

Sorry, I missed the limit part. Best thing about China Clays is they are cheap to get in bulk. I just got Dunes, and I'll finally get to put them in play tonight. We were supposed to play last week, but that damn Tropical Storm/Hurricane forced us to reschedule.

With my original set (metal insert Monaco Casino chips from Discount Poker shop), I actually built my set without even considering my game. Needless to say, I have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more chips than I need. $50 Hundos is completely unnecessary for a .25/.25 NLHE game LOL!

Need help, this is the set I'm working with this weekend, I ordered chips before I found out about chip forums and didnt want to bring the case of 25s I have as well, don't judge me, for I have been redeemed through PCF. Anyways:

400*100
250*500
100*1000
50*5000

There should be somewhere between 10-18 guys, any advice on a starting stack for that range of players? Thanks in advance!

This is for a tourney? And you have 25’s?

Yes for a tournament, I bought 1300 chips a while back and horribly mismanaged the breakdown looking back, but those are the chips I'm bringing.

Need more info for everyone to give thoughts. How many buy ins? Starting stacks? blinds? Etc

Freezeout, I don't really know about a break down with the weird breakdown but let's say t20000 or t25000, starting at 100/200. Let's say 2.5-3.5 hours

@FiveThous, starting with the T25's will make the higher denominations more useable. Leave some of the 100's at home.

Chips T25/T100/T500/T1000/T5000
T10,000 starting stacks: 12/12//7/5 (most prefer fewer T500's in favor of T1K's, but that won't work with your set.)

Totals 250/250/250/100/50

Color up the T25's and T100's with the T500's.

Or, since it's a freeze out, you could add 2xT5000, for T20,000 starting stacks, and start your blinds at 50/100, eliminating that dastardly 2x jump between levels 1 and 2.

I personally like the new BB Ante T100 based structures. You can do it with T25 too, but it's all adjustable based on blind levels.

Only reason I suggested the T25 base, is he doesn't have enough large denoms to really handle a T100 base setup.
