So I recently decided I could use a 1000pc carrier. Have seen the common one that is less than $50 and seems quite nice and adequate for the price. I have a 600pc carrier of the same ilk and like it.

Wanted to know what casinos use and saw this on some searches:

http://banksupplies.com/chip-carrier-bird-cage-style

Quite a bit more expensive... but seems like it could really take a fall. I wonder if it can hold 4 decks on top. The $50 range 1000pc carrier does I believe. The 600pc I have does not. There isn't enough space on top for decks. There is space though for two decks on the side when the trays are pushed over.

My local casino uses what appears to be the exact same cages I have at home and that pgi carries. If you can use two cages, I think the last time I got a quote from kim it was almost the same price to have two shipped in one package vs one. Maybe $5 difference. But that was about 8 months ago I think.

Another vote for Joe at PGI. Great guy and outstanding product. They will also laser engrave.

What are they doing in that second picture though?

I've seen the security dudes at the Chunk put the lids back on this way after doing a fill at table games like blackjack. I only assume that there is a reason for this but I don't know what it is.

Some chip carriers are designed so that the top can be reversed to hold/carry empty racks after chips have been transferred to a game table.

Yeah this is how I see them used in casinos here.

I've always been on the lookout for a sturdier birdcage. The ones used at all AC properties are thick as hell and wholly different from both the PGI ones and the one pictured above. I would take the one above, though, if it weren't $100+.

I think the price is relative. People buy $200 dollar sets then put them in $50 dollar carriers. Seems if you spend $800-$1000+ on a set.. getting the $120 carrier isnt completely insane.

It appears to be polycarbonate instead of acrylic. One of the 600pc acrylic carriers I received was cracked on arrival. Crack went all the way from the handle across the top then all the way down a side. The black brace on that corner was also cracked.

Truth is.. who knows what was stacked on top of it and anything could crack with enough weight. Plus.. im sure the acrylic case can stand up to the kind of abuse we are likely to really face. Just made it clear to me that the acrylic case is probably the china clays version of a birdcage.

Could be wrong though.. maybe the majority of casinos do use the screw in base style. The polycarb one though looks like it could be in an armored car delivering real chips.

FWIW I have had zero issues *knocks on wood 7 times* with the supposed "cheaper" versions of these carriers. I only use them for storage/display as well as transporting them <15 feet to the table. YMMV of course, depending on what you need them to do. If I ever needed to travel with a set I would likely put them in a briefcase style case anyway.

120 isn't terrible, relatively speaking. I keep each of my chips in a silk pouch, made of virgin chinchilla fur, sewn together by Shaolin monks in the Everglades. Each is wrapped individually to ensure maximum comfort while stored away. It takes me 17 and a half hours to unwrap each chip and gently place them onto baby seal skin felt.

Or maybe I have a 15 dollar aluminum case. :(

Lol.. briefcase style are fine. Some might even say dice chips are fine. To each their own...do want some of that baby seal felt though.

The best baby seal felt comes from seals that have led good (albeit, short) lives.

The interview process is daunting. You could go through 30, 40 baby seals before you find the right one.

Like we always say, make sure you get a sample set of baby seals before you purchase the full set. :)

This ^^

Has anyone got one these polycarbonate wotsits/can do a review?

Curious how it compares to the PGI one

Go Custom. Initially had 5 made then added 3 more:

Is not in danger of falling apart when being carried.
