Was looking into purchasing a set of Paulson's back in college (many moons ago, and when they were available). Never pulled the trigger other than ordering a couple sample sets. Circling back to acquire a set and lo and behold, no longer available for the consumer market. Been spending the last few days staying up too late, drooling over all the posted chip pr0n. Some of these new sets are gorgeous, but not sure if they are worth the asking price. Seriously contemplating making a run to Vegas to harvest a cash set from the Bellagio.

Will be monitoring the classifieds in the meantime to see if an interesting set pops up at the right price. Anyone else in the same boat?

Welcome to the forum....

Lots has changed in the last 10 or 15 yrs. No more TRK, no more BCC, no more Paulson for the home market, but lots of Paulson & various high end chips from closed/rebranded casinos have escaped into the wild. The only other true compression molded option out there is from Classic Poker Chips aka CPC. They are the only game in town for a true fully custom compression mold poker set.

Harvesting from Bellagio or other Casinos is a great way to get $1's, but leaves something to be desired for bigger denominations.

Happy reading.

Take your time figuring out what you really want. Still lots of good options.

Doing the math, even buying $5 or even $25 (in smaller quantities) at face value at a casino would be comparable to (or at least close to) getting a set of home market Paulson's, with the added benefit of being able to get my money back if I ever wanted.

Compare to say, a set of Empress Star chips going for $5, 6, 7+ per... if you can even find someone willing to sell a set.

Still kicking myself for not buying a set of WTHC when I had the chance. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

You are not wrong.

I think your solution is actually an underutilized option. It's kink of like you are renting the chips just for free in a way. Not actually free, but you are only tieing up the money and will get your money back eventually.

I do caution you though. If you decide to go this route, pay attention to the casino you buy/rent them from. Casino's tend to change up the chip rack every so often. For whatever the reason, they make an announcement and then you will have a period of time to redeem the chips (usually something like 90 days) and then after that the cage won't redeem the chips. This isn't a big deal at all for the $1's, but for the larger denominations could be a costly mistake.

Definitely a good word of caution. However, with my proximity to Vegas, it probably wouldn't be too much of a problem to make a run to redeem the chips. Alternatively, taking a look at what cancelled chips go for on the secondary market, it might actually be a winning proposition to simply keep them! (Especially for Vegas casinos as I believe those chips get destroyed once retired.)

Hello and welcome!
Thanks! I have found the folks on this forum to be very welcoming. Addicts welcoming new addicts with open arms. :bigbucks:

Sounds like this would be a good option for you.

All Vegas chips do get destroyed & yes you would come out ahead on the $1's for sure
