I just found it interesting, as MD Live just changed from 1/2 to 1/3. Could be because the other 2 MD poker rooms spread 1/3. Horseshoe is $300 max, Live is now $400 max. MGM is 1/3, max $500

MN has the same $100 bet law and $2-$100 spread game. Depending where you go and how you want it to play, it could run 3 different ways. $1/$2 with a $300 cap, $1/$2 uncapped, or $1/$2/$4 uncapped. The uncapped and straddle games do play a little bigger, but I think it's a result of being the biggest non-fixed limit games around than anything else.

They also spread Omaha (high only) as $1/$2 uncapped with the $2-$100 structure, so you can over bet the pot early. That turns into a $100/$100 game pretty quickly though from what I've seen.

I've always thought the $100 bet limit was counter intuitive... I think the state legislature here thought it would limit gambling/losses at the tables, but in effect it encourages more betting/chasing, because you have no way to protect your hand (ie, by going all in).

It encourages the casino's to find ways around it too. For years they did it with "survivor" sit n go tournaments. They'd be a $300 + $30 buy in, you'd get $300 in "tournament" chips, play NL for 2 hours, and the blinds would go from $1/$1 or $1/$2 to $1/$2 or $1/$3 half way through and you'd cash out what you had at the end.

They'll still run those for you, but the spread game has pretty much taken over. The only time I see them now is if the MSPT or something is in town. Then they'll run a $2,500 + $60 or something like that and play it as a bigger NL game.
