Here's a set I'm thinking of making for myself and my sports/poker-loving friends. I'd call it Champion's League Poker, but...freakin' Suns...

Denoms would be 5c, 25c, $1, $5, $20, and $100

Teams are Phoenix Suns, Seattle Seahawks, New York Islanders, Ohio State Buckeyes, New York Mets, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

No idea about inlay. Maybe using something with a Varsity font? Not even sure if I will move forward with it. Just concepting for now.

O-H!

I'm always in favor of the absurdity of custom clay nickels. Haven't seen one since the Bel Airs, I believe.

I - O !!!

Some of my friends are poor but enjoy poker nights; others enjoy dealer's choice circus games. Nickles are good for both, and I want all of my friends to enjoy a nice custom made set at some point that works for them, cost be damned.

as any alumnus with an inferiority complex could tell you, it's THE ohio state university.

love the suns frac, though :)

Love the quarter and $5 chips, doesn't matter who they represent.

Sorta like the folks who will spend $700/rack for minty retired casino chips that represent a mere 10c each in their home game. Laughably insane..... but sadly, I do get it.

"What do you mean, you're taking a chip home as a souvenir? That chip is worth half of your buy-in!"

I like where you're going Psy... The only minor comment I have is that you might have issues with the $5s and $20s being too similar... Depending on lighting the Mandarin Red and the Orange could look almost the same... On top of it, the spots are very, very similar in layout and both have Bright White...

Version 2. Now we're going from concept towards reality. Let me know your thoughts, please - particularly on the $100. I'm a little stuck and am not quite sure where to go with it.

Looking good!! I think the yellow $20 works a lot better with the $5 than the orange... Man, that $5 screams Buckeyes!! Wait until Ronoh sees that chip! I like your second and third version of the hundos but prefer the 6DSA18.

Another comment on colors, the Dark Blue is VERY dark... Not a whole lot of quarters will be playing with hundos but they'll look almost black... I would strongly suggest you to use Retro Blue instead... I think it works better with your color spots for the quarters and with the hundos... And it's a much prettier color imo... See Via Lactea's $1s for example...

Thanks! I'm pretty locked in at the $5. I actually prefer the $5 to be 6DSA18, but I can't justify the cost and the current spot pattern is pretty darn close to it anyway.

I think I'm okay w/the blue being dark, particularly since, as you say, they won't be on the table much w/the hundos, and the spot patterns are different/bright enough that it shouldn't be terribly difficult to tell them apart. I like it being close to a Seahawk/Mariner color scheme and we're pretty close here. That being said, I'll mess around with it and see if I can find something else that will work.

So here's v3. I'm pretty locked in at the $5 and $20, and I'm locked in on the colors of the $100. Everything else is still up for discussion.

I've uploaded alternate versions of the nickle, quarter, and $1.

i like the $5 and $20 as well, all options look solid for the $100, I think i lean towards option 6 for the $100 if my arm was twisted

In regards to the 5c 25c and $1.

How about a mimic of the Flamingo $1 for the 5c or 25c, which I think would look AWESOME

Personally I love this for a 25c

Two concerns here...

  • While I like retro blue as a color, I'm a little hesitant to use it as a base color since it's non-weighted (and all the others are weighted...would both feel odd & look odd w/o the brass flecks). Also, I think the Dark and Imperial Blues lend themselves better to Seattle team colors.
  • Having spots on a single "edge" drives the engineer, OCD, symmetry/balance-loving portion of my brain into a wall. I see why people dig the Flamingo chips, and I do think there is a certain classic look to them. I simply couldn't ever play with them comfortably. Prisoner to my own idiosyncracies... *sigh*

I like the look of all of these chips. For the hundred I think the last one 60sa18 looks the best, I'm thinking that the cost of this one may be a little more prohibitive. I'm just wondering if the team motif is still as evident. Still some cool looking chips though

The team concept was never likely to come to fruition - not for CPC chips, at least. I used it as a launchpad, though, towards something more viable.

As for the cost of the 6DSA18, I will only have two barrels made - one for play, and the other for extras/samples. Cost won't be too big of a factor for the hundo. It was definitely a factor in the $5, however, as the original $5 used a Level 5 design.

I miss the Suns chip.

The previous nickle was an old school Suns chip. The current hundo is like a more modern, badass Suns chip (which is ironic considering the only time the Suns have been badass lately is when committing felonies against civilians...idiot Morris twins).

Barkley is a major badass for embracing how fat he is, badass times a billion
