Hello everyone,

I have been lurking this wonderful forum for quite some time but thought I would take the plunge and get some valuable insight. I have recently upgraded my set of poker chips which I primarily use for board games, to a beautiful set of 300 Apache Bank chips. My current breakdown looks like this:

Chip DenominationCountTotal Value
17070
570350
20801600
100606000
5002010000
Total:30018020

This set is perfect for any board game and almost any 18xx, at least the ones I play. After using them I love them, and I want to expand the set to be able to accommodate a 10 person poker tournament. Since we can only order in minimum of 25 it makes my numbers a bit weird, since a friend and I originally ordered together and we traded chips to match what we wanted (which is why I have some that are not multiples of 25)

So after crunching some numbers of the calculator this is where I netted out. (Also note I do just want to get at least one barrel of each denomination even if they aren't as useful, since I love the color schemes.

So for tournaments I play T5k which is a breakdown of 8x 25, 8x 100, 4x 500, 2x 1000. We also play with unlimited rebuy's up to blind round 6 usually. In past games the most number of rebuys we have had was about 6-8 across all players (multiples from same person in most cases)

With that here is what I am proposing to fill my collection with. The poker specific chips will be about 400, in addition of the other 300 I already have, with some of the overlapping.

Chip DenominationCountTotal Value
17070
570350
1025250
20801600
251253125
50251250
10013513500
5009547500
10005050000
20002550000
Total:700167645

From players with experience, do these numbers look like they will accommodate my needs? My idea was if the game was intense with lots of rebuys I could always supplement with the 50's in addition to 25's and use the 2k's as well. I don't want to get way more of any one denomination than is needed because I would rarely if ever host more than 10 players at a single game.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Way to many denoms.

100xt25
100xt100
50xt500
50xt1000
*25xt5000 then switch to 25xt1000.

That's if you have to do multiples of 25.

Use your big chips for rebuys. Give them 5xt1000 or 1xt5000.

When you chip up, use your big chips and get change from the chip leader so your not introducing more chips.

Thank you for the reply, that makes sense. I wrote in the message, the reason there are so many denoms is because I primarily use them for board games. 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 would never be used for poker.

The set I have is the Bank China clay by Apache and unfortunately they do not have a 5k chip so I’ll need to settle for 1k and 2k.

And you think those numbers you listed would suffice for 10 players with a 5k starting bank? How important is having 5k’s. Would it be fine to use 50 2k’s in place of them?

I guess if I needed I could always bring in my 5 denoms and repurpose them as 5,000

how about a T10 tourney? I would usually do T3k-T5k but it would be nice to have the option to maybe go higher. How many 2k chips would you recommend I get in order to accommodate that?

If you don't mind playing T1 structure (the current standard is T00), you don't need much more chips than what you already have for a 10 players single table tournament.

Starting stacks of 300 on starting blinds 1-1 are the equivalent of common structures like 30.000 chips on starting blinds 100-100.

300 :
T1 x 10
T5 x 10
T20 x 7
T100 x 1

You can use T20 to color-up the T1 and T100 to color-up the T5.

So you only need 30 extra T1 and 30 extra T5.
You can use T100 to issue rebuy if you like to play rebuy structures.

I would say do what @Kid_Eastwood is recommending. That way you don't have to buy more chips.

But I want chips...

I want to get the full set and have 500-600. Mostly because my favorite color chip in the set is the $25.

I appreciate the recommendation for a low stakes set up, but that is not what I am after. Ido want to have a traditional tournament set with chips from 25 - 1000.

I appreciate the first breakdown and will aim to hit something like that.

You could always go with the 39mm chips for T25 through T1,000....and get custom ceramic plaques made from BRProPoker for the T5,000:

edit: I also noticed the non-denominated orange chip from the bank set. That could work nicely as the T5,000.

I like that idea as well. Assuming I do that. Do you think the numbers that paradox posted:

100xt25
100xt100
50xt500
50xt1000

Plus plaques or whatever for the 5ks is enough to support 10 players + rebuys?

My ideal starting stack is 8x25, 8x100, 4x500, 2x1000.

Plaques are an idea I've entertained and if my game grows I may get some.

You'll have to compare some prices as I think they can be pricey.

My tournaments are t25 base with 10k stacks and a single rebuy.

If you have unlimited rebuys you may want to go with 10x 5k plaques.

First use 5xt1000s for rebuys then when you chip up the t25/t100 break out the 5ks.

If you want to go with T25 structure :

T25 x 120
T100 x 120
T500 x 50
T1000 x 75
T5000 x 25

I covers T10.000 with one rebuy or T20.000 freezeout for 10 players with enough T1000 to color up the T25 and T100 and enough T5000 to color up the T500. You'll have to use a strict chiip race method though.

Starting stack : 12/12/5/6(/2).

If you want a 500 chip set, and you've to buy by rolls of 25 :

25 x 125
100 x 125
500 x 75
1000 x 125
5000 x 50

Starting stack : 12/12/7/10(/1)
You'll have extras/spares, be able to manage extra rebuys for T10.000 (not only one per players) and you'll not have to do a strict chip race for the color up.

This is the breakdown I used for one of my very first set back in the day.
