A few things about my problem:

1) when I say at night, I mean LATE night 12-3am
2) I understand other activity on the network could slow it down but there’s nothing else connected to my WiFi at these times
3) I also know that if someone else is using the same or a close channel (or w/e it’s called) for their WiFi in the area and they’re doing heavy traffic it could affect my connectivity but I know my neighbors pretty well and I’d be very surprised if any of them were doing some heavy down/uploads at these times nor do I experience this during work hours

Confession - I haven’t tried changing my channel yet or any other trouble shooting. Just google which keeps bringing me to pages about things I already know, so I’m hoping the PCF Brain Trust can help me avoid rolling around with my network aimlessly in hopes of fixing the problem.

May or may not be the issue but that's around the time all the set top boxes are pinged for data collection and updates are pushed out.

Your ISP might be doing hardware/software upgrades during those late hours...?
They won't do those types of things when most people are using them...

Thanks never thought of those things (also what are set top boxes and why would they be pinged for data collection? ).

Would either of those be as frequent as say 40-50% of the time I'm on wifi that late? I have no idea but seems like a lot.

Depends entirely on your provider, but some ISP's will throttle speeds during off hours (early morning). Namely Comcast & Verizon have been accused of it in the past (although they will deny it) it does happen.
That makes sense cause it does seem fairly consistent and very night and day in the difference.

God knows that you touch yourself at night and is trying to punish you
 :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO: FTR it's extremely slow when I'm playing a mobile game (Blitz WoT) where my ping is usually 30-120 then during those hours it jumps to 200-3400.

That being said, pornhub works fine all the time ;)

Run some speed tests during the affected hours. If it seems to be a consistant drop off (50%, 75%, etc) and affects both up & down speed them it could be throttling.

do you have pc or laptops running windows 10? there’s a sneaky little feature in there where windows uses your computer as a server to torrent updates to other users on the internet. it saturates your upload so badly that the devices on your network cannot reply to the other end and say “yes,i’m receiving the packets” which results in a retransmit loop in your download side. symptoms are typically 180-400ms ping and 10% or less of usual download. go into settings, update/security, delivery optimization,advanced- turn off feature. even if it’s set to local only.
