I'm looking into getting new set of chips. I am between the Nevada jack skulls and tiki kings.

I know they are not Paulson caliber but not looking to break the bank here.

Any input would be appreciated

Looking to make my own set to play with 4 buddies weekly. Almost purchased .25, 1, 5dollar Nevada jack skulls last night from Abc but found these forums last night so wanted some input before pulling the trigger on them

Search for @Hobbyphilic on YouTube, he's done review videos on both. His reviews are very detailed and usually has a sound test.

Edit, found links

Tiki:
Nevada:

Both of these are ceramic chips which are still good imo. (I play in a neighborhood game that uses Scroll chips which I think are a lesser ceramic but I like the way they stack and feel.) Ceramic just doesn't have the feel of clay.

Yea I actually did watch his videos before. I do understand people say order samples but I think I'm just goonna order one soon. Was leading towards Nevada jacks skull. Just love the design but tiki look pretty nice too.

I like both sets, you can't go wrong, just depends which looks best to you. I'm a big family man and we hang out with a lot of families with small kids so Tiki Kings are friendly and inviting. If it were just me and my pals, I probably would have gone with Nevada Jacks. Don't know if that helps, but sounds like you have things squared away and know what you like.

Lol, I remember those 30 minute reviews....

Thanks everyone for the Input and thanks for your videos you do for the poker community hobbyphilic

I'm going with the Nevada jack skulls

You are the worst....you got me into this game via your Youtube videos! a true criminal ! :)

If you haven’t yet, get samples before you commit to ANY set.

This is the absolute truth.

In his videos, Hobbyphilic stresses a lot about the smoothness of chip edges and how rough ones can be annoying. I didn't really understand what he was talking about until I held a sample of Bluff Canyons in my hand. They looked impressive but their texture was just not good... bordering on terrible.

The sample allowed me to avoid a potential mistake given I was thinking of buying them. Ultimately, I settled with a china clay which looked as good but was much more friendly to the touch.

I would consider the Sunfly hybrids...several group buys going on right now. Great value and from what I hear better than china clays...

Except the $1000s. 43mm oversize IHC can get pricey.

Par-A-Dice Casino is another relatively inexpensive Paulson set option.

Hope you like 'em. Even if restricting myself to just 39mm off-the-shelf ceramic sets, the Skulls wouldn't even make my top ten list. Lots better options out there imo, but hey, it's your money.....

I think those burro hs's are beautiful and close to what I'm looking for.

I'm almost convinced that when I'm ready to pull the trigger on upgrading my tourney set I'll participate in a future GB rather than do something with stock or semi custom chips.

I used a few racks or Argosy 50c chips with Gear labels for big tourneys. .. as I had less than a rack of the real oversized
