My grandfather served as the commanding officer for the USS Sellers DDG as part of his career in the Navy. I ended up inheriting the collection of all things USS Sellers, and one of the times while I was holding the patch, I decided it was something that would look nice as a golden hot stamp, and a nice thing I could do to commemorate that part of my family history.
So, at DiD, I talked with @Josh Kifer about executing on the design, and I left super stoked to get the ball rolling on this project… and then we got a nice classic severe Texas storm with hail that resulted in roof damage, and well, I had to cancel any hobby spending after we paid for that repair bill. So this idea went back on the shelf for some future day, until the news about CPC dropped. And so, since it’s now or never, guess we’re gonna make it work.
I landed on a hot stamp limit set, because
1) hot stamps are actually awesome, and I don’t have a set of them
2) I actually really enjoy limit, but don’t have a set for that either
3) limit lets me do the rare non-denomination set, which serves the multiple purposes of preserving the original design, future proofing the stakes (plus, to be honest, I already play wildly different stakes between our home game vs with PCF anyways), and saving on designing and making multiple dies
Okay so finally, preamble aside, here are the drafts I’m at, going from workhorse, to value, to super value (1:20:100 ratio).
I’m pretty locked in on the white chip. Is the black and red too stark compared to the lighter colors of the others? Do I even need the second, bigger value chip? Many limit sets I see don’t use them, but I’m also having to balance the reality that I won’t be able to buy infinite racks of the main chip or add on in the future, so one chip representing an entire rack is an economical way to make the set functional and future-proof.
For traveling purposes, I imagine this set would be 900-80-20.
I welcome whatever feedback y’all have!
