After a log hiatus from poker I plan to start back a home game now that my daughter has moved off to colege. Once this covid shit passes that is.

With my old league long gone I think it would be good to start off by getting some new chips.

These were my original

I ended up with 7 theme ideas I liked and have now narrowed it down to 3.

I have made some basic mockup of the themes. Keep in mind these are my amateur crap versions, when I make a final decision I will find a real graphic guy to make my proofs. These will be a ceramic tournament set and I have not decided on final edge and border design yet but expect the main colors to be green, black, orange, purple, pink. I am also thinking of having a small cash set of ASM inlaid solids to go with it.

1. Following the idea of many prohibition era speakeasy's were named after the address or street name I came up with the CLUB 3820 (my house number)

Club 3820

Made some examples using different colors for font, some to match denom with chip or all font to chip etc.

2. Staying with a prohibition easy theme I am sure you have all heard of Clip Joints so thought I would play off that.

3, Our small towns high school mascot is the wildcat and our colors are green, black, and white. The logos used are a wildcat face and paw print. The pawprint is actually used on the football, softball, baseball helmets.

for the club 3820 I could have different images for each chip, the whiskey glass, a beer bottle, a cigar, a music note.

for the clip joint I could have a different weapon brass knucks, switchblade, tommy gun, bat

also remember these crappy images are my doing, I will have someone who actually know what they are doing take the idea and make final proofs.

thoughts?

I think these are hard to judge or value, because they're so personal. I think most people probably don't care too much regarding a small town local high school, but it's obviously cool if your daughter just graduated there, you spent a lot of time over the last couple of years at events, and a lot of your buddies who play attended there back in the day. Going that direction is going to be a more personal and less aesthetic approach if you're tied to the pawprint or face.

Kinda same thing with Club 3820. We have actually had some awesome customs done off of people's towns/streets/addresses etc. Like the Knollwoods (creator lives on knollwood)

If it were me personally, I would either double down on the personal aspect of your customs, or double down on the speakeasy/prohibition old school factor.

There's been so many ideas floated and mockups drawn up, that if you go the speakeasy or old school route, ideas are out there.
The following locations were some places in Vegas where the wise guys and/or casino employees would frequent. The middle two are still open.

The Sneak Joint (long closed) - http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=NVLVSJ&p=0100&v=2608096677

Casa Di Amore - http://www.casadiamore.com/

Italian American Club - http://www.iacvegas.com/

Coachman's Inn (hangout of Tony The Ant) -

Best of luck! If I was voting between the 3, I'd vote 3820. Although I think our designers here could make any of them look fantastic.

some of the other ideas I had were actual names of prohibition speakeasies.

The Green Mill Chicago, IL
Lookout House Covington, KY
Cave Garden Tulsa, OK

Now those sound right. I'd like playing at the Cave Gardens or The Lookout House! Bet some pretty cool designs could go with the lookout.

you'll make me second guess myself.

Cave Garden was a favorite of Pretty Boy Floyd when he was in the area.

Green Mill was part owned by Machine Gun jack McGurn a lieutenant of Capone and Capone used to frequent it and had his own booth where he could see both entrances to the place.

lookout house was a restaurant upstairs that had a speakaeasy jazz room and illegal gambling downstairs.
