I would like to introduce myself and explain how I found PCF. I am an engineer and software developer living in New Hampshire and have been playing cards my whole life. About 21 years ago I started taking poker seriously. I spent my early years grinding out a modest living at Foxwoods. Today, I occasionally enjoy playing at the local card clubs and hosting small stakes home games with friends. I have a few different sets of metal slug ABS chips and they... well, leave me feeling very unsatisfied. About a year ago, I began scowering the Internet in search of “the perfect” set of poker chips. Needless to say this led me down a not-so-disappointing rabbit hole which had me watching countless hours of YouTube chip channels and lurking this forum. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve been bitten by the proverbial bug, and yes, I’m still looking for that great set of chips! Enough rambling though... this seems like a great place full of great and knowledgeable people and I’m excited to get acquainted!

Welcome! So tell us what your thoughts are on that "perfect set of poker chips." Clay? Ceramic? High end plastic? Particular colors or edge spot designs? Inlays? Hot Stamps? We want to know how to help you...

Hi TX_Golf_N_Player! I’m leaning towards clay chips with inlays and edge spots that catch the eye but are not too distracting (and won’t break the bank). I like edge spots and colors that look great in a stack but will easily be distinguishable and less prone to ending up with a dirty stack. I’m probably going to go with a low limit cash game set with a good breakdown of 1s, 5s, 25s, and a small amount of 100s. Fracs (0.25s) would be nice too since we sometimes play .25/.50 or .50/1.00 NLH. Eventually a tournament set would be nice too. I’m close to pulling the trigger on ordering the set of HSIs now available on Apache. I want that classic casino feel and what better way than Paulsons! I’m a bit reluctant though because I’m not sure what condition the primary chips will arrive in. Part of me wants to wait to see if a set of secondary chips hit the market that I like. I’m also interested in the investment aspect of getting obsolete casino chips to justify my purchase although I would probably never sell a set that I like haha! I’ve also ordered samples (in the mail) of their Bank, Dunes, and Majestics to see if I would be satisfied (for now) with the cheaper China clays. I know it’s probably not real clay and the inlays are fake but from reviews I’ve seen the feel/sound seems similar to that of real a real clay casino chip. CPCs also interest me but they’re a bit out of my budget atm.

Today I finally decided to buy the HSI chip set on Apache here I’ve been eyeing for a while and wouldn’t you know it... out of stock . They were available yesterday! Guess the search continues ...

Not sure what set you are referring to, and not knocking Apache at all, but I suspect with a little work you can find the same chips right here on the forum, and for less money from members than you would pay a for profit business.

Hoping to find a set similar or better at some point. Since I’m a new member I don’t think I have access to the classifieds or auctions yet. I have a feeling that this first set of “real” chips might be the first of many!

I think you have access to read, you just can't post. But I may be wrong. Should be easy enough to check.

See you at the Encore!
Haven’t been to the Encore yet but I will at some point! Heard it’s really nice and games are good! There are few rooms that I frequent which are very close to me, Chasers, Boston Billiards, Seabrook, etc.
