Hello everyone. I've been browsing the forum like a madman over the last 2 months or so. My name's Justin and I'm 36 from Ft. Worth Texas.
The reason I got onto this forum is simple. I've been playing Texas Hold'em for about 11 years now. I was really into it up until about 2013-2014. I actually made a living off poker from 2009-2011 full time. I would go to Shreveport to play at the casino's, I would play online, found cash games in my area and the most fun was home poker games with 6-8 good friends on a weekly basis. We would play home games at least once a week usually 2-3 times per week always at least 6 at the table usually 7-10. So what brings me here? Well I fell off poker after having my first boy. Back when I was playing home games on the regular I got really into poker chips. I started out with a dice set like everyone. After awhile I grew bored of them. I then purchased a better set of chips. They were some classic ceramic poker chips. Really liked them at first but in the end I just prefer clay. So I started researching and found Paulson chips. I ended up buying a 750 set of the classic Paulson chips. Everyone loved them. Best chips I ever had by far. I didn't realize how lucky I was at the time. In 2012 someone broke into my house and the chips were 1 of the items stolen. Very depressing. After that I just purchased a 750 set of Nexgen pro's and honestly for the money they were fantstic.

Anyhow, I fell off poker completely as I said. About 2 months ago a bunch of the old friends came into town and we ended up having a poker game. I fell right back in love with it. Now I'm on the hunt for a nice set and plan to host weekly poker games again. SO that's the reason I'm here. I was sad to see Paulson chips are no longer for sale to the commercial market. That's ok. Classic poker chips looks to be what I'm after. Going to have a custom set made just trying to figure out what. Right now leaning rounders with the new scrown mold.

Texas actually has a number of private rooms (not underground clubs) where you pay a seat charge not a rake. I was a dealer at one of them in the Dallas area. However all of the Dallas area ones closed due to threats from the district attorney. The other 39 remain open.
It's very frustrating.

I’m assuming closed rooms have unused chips sitting around that need to be chased down? I’m sure a lot of them are crap, but you never know.

A couple sold their chips here.

I've played in of couple of Austin ones, they don't use Paulsons

Welcome. Getting a custom CPC set is a great choice if you plan to host games and want a personal touch.

I strongly recommend employing a designer to help you out. There are several people here who are good and can help with designing the inlays and color combos on the chips.

Most people who do it on their own come out with an inferior end result. One exception is this design which I really like.

Welcome, I'm new as well, sorry for your loss. May the stolen chips crack into dust, unless the cops find them and return them to you first...

welcome! good luck with the customs! I tried that years ago, but drove myself crazy with edgespot colors and progressions....just went with some Paulsons instead.
