Hello all! I’m new to this site and joining because I used to play poker often with friends about 15 years ago, and now I’m rekindling my love for the game.

My wife bought me an affordable set of 700 chips back then (which I still have), but I am now cobbling together a set of Paulson Classics.

Anyway, looking forward to the discussions!

Welcome!! This is the place to be for the love of poker and chips!! What set did you recieve from your wife? Do you host any games?
Wishing you luck on your journey for the classics!!

Dude, welcome to the forum!

If you've got wifey backing your play around here, man, you are way ahead of the game!

At least from my perspective! Haha

Enjoy your quest and welcome back to poker!

Welcome Lionel. And now, the wheel is turning and you “Cant Slow Down.”

obscure reference that one of you might pick up on.

1983 Lionel Richie!

My dad had his stuff on vinyl!

Dancing on the ceiling was my dad's favorite!

Elaborate just a little
When I was just a 5 year old boy, this music was in! The album "can't slow down" and the feature song, got played at all my birthday parties and got all of us dancing around the living room...

Your post and comment took me right back to the living room, with the record player, and the song "dancing on the ceiling" which came later when I was 7 years old. I think 86

His music really made a room dance. I still enjoy listening to some of his hits! Still could today if kids had any real sense of music art.

Outstanding job there. Now for bonus points, which Ncaa division 1 men’s basketball champion‘s sister, did I go to the Tina Turner/ Lionel Ritchie concert at the Worcester Centrum with when the Can’t Slow Down album came out ?

:wow:wow! All I can say is wow! Awesome! That would have been a hell of a show! I knew the music, but didn't go to my first concert until 1995.

This is the song that immediately came to mind. I love Bob Dylan's performance, but Johnny Cash and June Carter's interpretation is amazing. Love Cash's inflection on the word "babe." Somebody commented that this song can be translated as "Go buy a dog and leave me alone." The last line of the refrain is "It ain't me you're lookin' for, Babe."

Welcome to PCF!!!

It’s been so long that I can’t remember what kind of chips they are, but I’ll post a couple pics. Let me know if they look familiar. I believe they are weighted and plastic, but I still enjoy playing with them. I used to host games, but it’s been a long time...keep talking about getting together with friends, just gotta make the time.

Hello and welcome!

Post-Commodores Lionel Ritchie fan? =)
You bet...Lionel Ritchie is legendary...not a fan of his daughter though!

Tried to get creative with the intro title and login name.

I know, right? I’ll keep on playing as long as she will let me. Trying to get her playing again too...gotta work on her not getting scared off when the pots/blinds get big!

You guys are cracking me up...if you don’t remember the video, or haven’t seen it, check it out...https://youtu.be/ovo6zwv6DX4

Love the Magnum P.I.-ish Ferrari in the beginning...and those dancing on the ceiling effects were mind-blowing back in the day!

Since I haven’t owned clay chips before, curious if anyone has advice on care and maintenance. Do they hold up pretty well over time? I assume “flea bites” occur typically when players splash the pot or drop them? Thanks...interested to see how they wear, since my plastic ones haven’t shown much of any wear over time.

Mineral oil, dedicated microfiber cloth, and LOVE will go a LONG way.

Hello and welcome!
What part of Japan are you from? I was born in New York, but both of my parents are Japanese. How is the poker scene over there?
Regards,
Jun

Jun,
I am based in Okinawa for the second time, and have really enjoyed all that Japan has to offer. I haven’t really gotten a feel for the poker scene off-base yet, but am getting back into it because of on-base tournaments.

That’s awesome! I didn’t think poker was too popular in Japan... But it’s been a while since I’ve visited. Matsui Gaming machine is a Japanese company, I have a custom set from them. They are high end plastics that service the casino industry. A down side is, they are really slippery new out the factory... but I still love them. Shipping to the states is really expensive which is another deterrent.

Cool...have any idea where you would find them out in the local market? I’ll ask around...interested to check them out, as I’ve seen some other people mention them in other forums. Have any pics of some of their chips they’re producing?

One other question...any recommendations on chip carrying cases? I have one of the “standard” aluminum ones, but it’s pretty poor quality and beginning to fall apart. I would be looking to replace my current one that holds 700 chips, but also purchase a 1,000 chip case as I build out another set.
Thanks!

There is definitely threads on this forum on cases. Pelican, Nanuk, and Apache seems to be popular. I actually have a chip tool drawer to hold my chips, since I don’t take them out the house.
As far as finding Matsui Chips, I would contact your local sales rep. My sales rep Roxana is fantastic and sends me samples. I’m sure your local rep would do the same.

Great! Thanks for the heads up!
