Hi everyone, I've been browsing this forum for a couple of months now and today I decided that I should probably create an account. I've played a weekly poker game with a few friends for many years, finally took the plunge to upgrade from dice chips and a crappy old poker table. I built a 9 seat table with a racetrack back in November and last month I purchased about 600 chips from apache. About a week after they arrived I bought 600 more.....and now I can't stop thinking about creating a fully custom set of chips. This hobby seems to escalate quickly, or is it just me?

Anyways, this forum has been a great resource to me so I wanted to say thank you to everyone for sharing their knowledge, tips and advice!
 
what was I thinking! :D About the table, I have to say I'm pleased with it even though there are several mistakes, but having no previous experience in building anything really I can't complain. When I inevitably build the 2nd one I'll do some things differently, like the vinyl for the rail and the stain for the wood. But I used what I already had. For the chips my first purchase was a rack of almost every moderately priced chip that Apache sells, each one a different denomination. I wanted to get a bunch of chips in to see what I liked but also wanted to play my weekly game with new chips asap. I suppose I could've ordered a sample pack but I didn't want to wait! My second order was a complete set of Nile Club. I liked the look of them and my dog's name is Niles (see profile pic).

Greetings from Columbia County... which people here call Upstate, even if people from Syracuse disagree...

All a matter of perspective, I suppose. As someone from North Jersey, as far as I’m concerned, you’re upstate if you’re north of the Tappan Zee Bridge!

I’d say Rochester qualifies.

@Pinesol13... I think @CantSpellPoker is saying you're basically Canadian as far as people from the tri-state area are concerned ;)
 
Cool, I visit Rochester a couple of times a year. I never have time to break away for cards. i had to travel to travel to MN to meet @Forty4
 
For the other Rochester members, do you guys play in any local leagues or anything? I'm interested in branching out and getting into more games this year
 
Haven't played much lately. Used to play more years ago when buy ins were cheep before everyone wanted to make a living at playing poker.
We have almost half a table just in this thread. We should plan a poker night some time.
