I’m dan - from Toronto Canada. Was riding out the lockdown swooning over chip pics and wanted to get in on a custom order so I needed to start an account.
Not sure what else to say. Am interested in local home games whenever the lockdowns are over.

Welcome! Which chips caught your eye?
The Paulson horseshoe sale but unfortunately many denominations are sold out. Shipping seems like it would be difficult though. Anyone know of places that sell Paulson chips in Canada and/or places that ship to Canada at a reasonable price?

Paulson doesn't sell to the home market (anymore). @TheChipRoom buys chips from closed casinos and resells them here. Some of these chips are also available at @Apache Poker Chips apachepokerchips.com, and @The Chip Exchange (another site vendor). I've bought chips from Apache before and had them shipped to Canada. Their prices are a bit higher, but they have chips in stock all the time. Pretty sure they have at least some of the Horseshoe Indiana (HSI) Paulsons. Shipping to Canada is always expensive but it was at least reasonable when I order from Apache.

Here's some HSI chips on the apache site. https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/1000-horseshoe-casino-indiana-paulson-set/

Since there's another @TheChipRoom sale coming up, you can try your luck with it as well to potentially get lower prices, or check the classifieds, as you can usually get deals with people selling paulsons to raise money for the upcoming sale. These are the chips that will be in the upcoming sale https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/jack-cincinnati-sample-set-sale.69951 . (The chips will be sold individually in a few weeks time, so far there's just a thread for sample sets).

Thanks mnebesny, yea, what i meant when i said paulson chips is these casino "refurbs" - the one i regret not picking up sooner was the chip exchanges horseshoe casino indiana set (they don't seem to have any more of the $5 chips).

Also was wondering since you're from the toronto area, have you ever used straight poker supplies for custom chips (or seen them in person)? If so how would you rate the quality of their clay composite customs?

Straight poker Supplies I’ve used for buying Table building material ,cups.speed cloth and such ... As for custom China clay chips no I haven’t .... I probably wouldn’t go that route anyway...

you mean because of quality? from what i've read the quality varies significantly depending on the vendor.

and it's hard to tell based on showroom samples how warped your shipment will be, how brittle they become over time etc.

will probably give them a try for 1k chips at 60c/chip (if i can't find any feedback) and let you guys know what it's like.

Hey from the North GTA

I bought these off Apache.... They are really nice chips....Don't be afraid of used the chips I got are in great shape with the 1's and 5's having the most wear but even that is minimal. They were not cheap and customs loved taxing them too. I missed the super sale one here but don't mind the HSI chips are great.

They are with shipping and taxes are a bit cheaper than the same amount of customs.

Lastly per Straitpokersupplies....great store, the chips are moderate in level and if you are seeking paulson style will not meet your needs. I have a Crazy horse, Protege and had a Scroll set from them. All are nice chips...the Protege are the nicest cheap chips I have ever handled. I use them as counters for my daughter for math. The Scrolls were nice and would make a fine set but needed to make room and they got the push first. The crazy horse are a set that requires handling or mineral oil treatment to get to really like. They are initially nice but chaulky and more slick than a Paulson (still ok though), after some real handling (or mineral oil if you have the patience) they feel much better and stack better. I see that some of these sets are going out of supply for certain chips. Hopefully business can hang on in these tough times. I'd highly recommend the Modiano cards they sell and the folding poker tables. Thinking of adding a black one maybe again in a month or so.

I've looked at their website before for a couple things (one of them actually being the buttons in @philhut 's photo), but never actually been to the store or made an order. Only heard good things though.

For custom chips I'd recommend joining one of the ongoing Card's Mold ordered from China/Alibaba that are running in the PCF group buy section. You get custom ceramics for 35c/chip or less. The only catch is you have to be patient while they make their way from China on a slow boat...I'm still waiting on mine that I ordered in December. I do have some samples though. I don't mind lending them out, send me a PM if you're interested.

Had my heart on clays and if I’m going China custom clays I’d rather just have my own design (price difference would be very small after shipping and exchange rates) but thanks for the offer.

What were shipping and custom fees on your order?

I don't think I've ever been hit with customs on the 5 orders I've made. Shipping was pretty reasonable. I think I paid around $10 when buying a barrel, around $15 when buying a rack, and around $25 when buying 3 racks.

I bought the set pictured so was hammered with import taxes when those heavy boxes came in. 5 or 6 Dice chip sets worth in taxes lol

Yea i'm toying with their shipping costs, it goes in tiers (ie: up to 200 chips for 30, then $50 up to 500 chips etc). going to try and get it for the largest possible amount that is kept at the $30 hopefully minimizing chances of duties.

also guess i'll find out if chip room gets hit by the duties since i ordered the jack cinci sample set.

Crazy horse = milano = china clay
Monaco millions/cashclub = meh
Nexgen pro classic felt good but the edgespots/inlay design leaves me hungry
scrolls = flat and great ceramic for stacking but the printing is a bit low res

I bought samples and am Kingston ON.
