Hello All,

I just joined after lurking around here for a while. I am 30 years old, from Hamilton, Ontario Canada. I used to be heavy into chip collecting in small amounts, as well as a regular host of a home game. However, over the years our game disbanded and poker fell out of the wayside. Most of my small collections were sold, or donated unfortunately, but I do have a few sets left. Namely a set of Jackpot Casino chips, as well as a set of Faux Clay chips.

Our home game has recently seen a resurgence, which is what has brought me here today. Looking to do some labeling for my Faux Clay set to get a more authentic feel for our game. Unfortunately my set is a bit of a hodge podge as I bought it years ago from a user on Chiptalk and the amounts weren't the most normal.

Anyways, onto the chips. I currently have the following colors and am looking to make labels for a custom cash game set. We usually play 0.25 / 0.50 No Limit, and usually get about 1250 - 1500 on the table. Although this month's game went bananas and ended up with over 2500 on the table, leading us to break into other random chips to sort the difference. Here is what I have and my initial thoughts for breakdown.

Whites x 190 approximately (thinking these will be good for $1.00 chips)
Blacks x 145 approximately (thinking these for $0.25 chips)
Purple x 100 approximately (Thinking these for $5.00 chips)
Orange x 100 (Thinking these for $25.00 chips)
Grey x 45 approximately (not sure what to do with these, either $100 or non-denominated to be used as placeholder chips in games.)

Any thoughts or Feedback would certainly be welcome. We'd have 3226.25 without the $100s, so I think that would be plenty, which is why I thought the non-denomination might be a decent idea. Also, if anyone has recommendations on a designer/printer for labels.

Thanks

I might consider orange quarters, white dollars, black $5, purple $20/$25, and gray hundos.

But it is a small set of chips, and kinda limiting. I might keep my open for a set that better spreads your game, but use these in the interim, but I'd just use them unlabeled, as they might not take labels well.

Unfortunately white is most commonly used for $1 chips but you are really low on $5s. Black is a cool colour for $1 and purple is commonly used for $25 in California so if you can stand using white for $5, I would go for:

Orange .25
black $1
white $5
purple $25
grey $100

Especially since you commonly end up with $1250+ on the table, I wouldn't use your larger #s of chips for the lowest denoms.

If you think your players would object to white $5s then I would use:
orange. 25
white $1
black $5
purple $25
grey $100

orange .25, black $1s

I'm in Cambridge, you can also find me on pokerforum.ca

welcome!

Is the set you listed faux clay? Those don't do well with labels (no recess)

This isn't the first I've heard of this, but I could have sworn that I saw a few back in the Chiptalk days with labels on them. Perhaps this new information is going to force me into a more custom and expensive direction. Haha.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

Welcome!

I previously labeled a set of faux clays (twice actually) and while it will work, you'll end up with some chips either sticking together or spinning because of the labels making contact with each other.

That's all a matter of preference though, if that won't bother you then go for it!

Once you stick around here a bit I'm sure you'll find tons and tons of other chips that will suck all of the money from your wallet.

I still keep my (now unlabeled) faux clay set as a travel set, they're great chips for the price!

Welcome to the forum..

I am in agreement with @Trihonda, that breakdown makes more sense, your $1's and $5's will be mostly used, and 20/25's and hundos would be for rebuys..

Thanks for the replies and welcomes everyone. Just as an aside to some of you with sets, what would you recommend as an "ideal" breakdown of chips for the game I described above, assuming we use about 300-400 Chips total.

Hello All,

We usually play 0.25 / 0.50 No Limit, and usually get about 1250 - 1500 on the table. Although this month's game went bananas and ended up with over 2500 on the table, leading us to break into other random chips to sort the difference.

assuming we use about 300-400 Chips total.

Blasphemy! Nothing ideal about limiting youself to 3-400 chips.

Id go with 120 quarters (I'd prefer more, but assuming a full 10-player game, 12 quarters each is a nice workable number most agree on)

I like at least two barrels of $1's for each player (in $.25/.50), so you're looking at 400 total (could get away with a single barrel for each person, but meh...)

I'd personally go with 200 $5's minimum (but 400 would be my preference).

Then 80 $25 chips for rebuys.

So bare min I think (my opinion)

120/200/200/80 = 600 chips

200/300/400/100 = 1000 chips

Yeah I think I've seen a few username ping from the Hammer. We should try to get one of these fancy PCF meet ups going north of the border. Or at the very least maybe a game.

Can faux clays be milled and labeled?

Is it cost prohibitive to do so?

If this is directed to me, I'm not 100% sure. They more than likely cannot stand up to the process of being milled, they aren't they highest quality of chip and I believe they'd probably crack. Even if they could it's definitely cost prohibitive to do so, you'd be spending more on the milling process than the chips are worth probably multiple times over.

As for taking a label my research from here as well as the CT forums yielded mixed results. I saw some labels that looked nice, some threads where people complained it couldn't be done and others where people did it and disliked the results so much that they removed the labels. I ultimately didn't end up labelling mine and went with custom ceramics. Might try to move the faux clays once I get those.

No, and no (imo)

They are injection molded plastic, they'll crack if milled with a press. It may be possible to do with a CNC, but I have no knowledge about that.

There is a very very small recess in the middle compared to the height of the "mold" around the outside, it'll create spinners and/or cause chips to stick together.

Also getting thin labels will at least double the cost of the chip, possibly even more than double.

They can be lasered, but it's hard to find someone to do that now. I'd still be interested in doing that with my set actually.
