Sitting Out
Hey guys!
Like many of us on this forum, I’d assume, I started playing poker and bought my first chip set after watching Chris Moneymaker beat Sammy Farha in the WSOP main event in 2003, when I was in my mid 20’s.
After hosting my first home game, I got several buddies interested in playing regularly. I was determined to learn how to run a good weekly home game, the right way. It all came together when I found homepokertourney.com, which was an awesome resource for rules, blind levels, recommended chip counts, chip demons & colors, etc. I was pretty active on hpt’s forum site, and I even recognize some of the usernames from back then on this forum, which is really cool!
My home game ran strong for about 3 years, hosting over 100 games during that stretch. Then life happened, I got married, started a family, and just didn’t have the time (or the energy, or the extra cash) to host games anymore. One of my buddies kept the game running at his place for a while after that, but it eventually faded out for good.
I’ve always had a thing for poker chips (or casino chips in general). When I was a kid, my dad used to bring me a $5 chip from whatever casino he had stayed at on his latest business trip.
I have (2) 1000 chip tourney sets and a bunch of sample sets from my prime playing days back in the mid 2000’s. But just recently, I got another 1000 chip tourney set, some more sample sets, and some “collectible” type chips as well. All of my tourney sets are definitely of the mid-level category / price range (i.e. China clay level), but I spend way more time than my wife can understand designing a custom set of horsehead mold CPC’s on the poker chip design tool that we all know so well. I am determined to own a custom set of CPC’s in the next year or two. I’ll try to post some pics of my current collection in the next couple of weeks.
This past year I finally hosted a few tourneys (fundraisers for my daughter’s softball team), and have played in a few other small home games here in town. Eventually, I’d like to host maybe 2-3 big reunion tourneys a year with the original crew of buddies.
Good to be back in the game!
