Hello PCF,

Iam a new member from Germany that lately got bitten by the bug ... . Since my introduction into the beautiful world of poker chips I ordered a few sample sets:
- a sample set of china clay Pharaoh chips (I liked the design)
- a sample set of no name china clay blanks "ProgenTM 80 Hi-Grade Claychip" (with the intend to maybe customize them)
- and finally a sample set of CPC rounders (I wanted to feel what quality clays are like)

After these few experiences with "higher quality" chips (we are currently playing with dice chips) I beginn to wonder if my expectations where to high or I'm looking for the wrong type of chips. The china clays felt really really cheap and instantly broke on the first drop and strength test. The CPC chips feel better but don't seem to justify the nearly 2 dollar price tag (after import to Germany). The haptics of the CPCs are good and I like the sound but they still feel delicate and somehow cheap (maybe because of my broken china clays).

After lurking the PCF for a while I'm more and more getting the feeling that Tinas card mold chips are maybe the right thing for me. They seem like they are as robust and indestructible as my current dice chips but with the option to customize them for a really good price. However I have no idea how to obtain samples of these without ordering several hundreds and paying a huge amount of shipping. Maybe there is a European PCF member with some spares?

Right now I'm also trying to resist on ordering a sample set of the real Paulson Pharaoh chips. I'm really deeply in love with the design but now scared of the 109 euro price of a full sample set here in Germany. I feel like I would be as underwhelmed with them like the CPC chips.

As you can see I have a dangerous amount of knowledge/involvement about chips. Too much to stop the journey and too little to make an educated decision. Therefore I'm really interested about what you guys think about my observations!

Best regards Niklas

In my opinion, the feel of CPCs if hugely affected by the mold they're on. I got a sample of the Atlantic Club CPCs when I was new and figured I didn't like CPCs...turns out I just didn't like the feel of the A-mold. But some of the other molds like the DSQ or scrown feel buttery smooth, and I'm now the owner of a DSQ set. Just out of curiosity, did you get the scroll rounders or the circle-square rounders? You might want to try Paulsons too, as much as I love CPCs, they still don't feel like Paulsons (or TRKs). My main complaint as a newb was that the CPCs I'd tried felt "gritty", especially if you took too and rubbed them together, but this isn't at all true with Paulsons. I know shipping (and import tax) is expensive to Europe though, I'm sure that's influencing your decision.

If it helps, I live in Canada where shipping is cheap(er) than the US, so I could potentially lend some stuff out if you're interested. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

Hallo und willkommen,
Paulsons are my favorites, but again there are a lot of differences. THC, RHC or casino mold are just a few of the differences and there are a few more. I recommend again: samples, samples, samples or buy, try and sell again if necessary.
If you're interested in 5 heavily used Bellagio's $1 chips let me know. Still, these are significantly different than my MGM Las Vegas or Foxwood house molds etc.

Thank you everybody for the warm welcome :) I think I'm not worthy of sending PMs already but I will come back to the offers once I'm more situated in the PCF.

Since my last post I ordered two more sample sets: Monte Carlo poker club (because they are cheap) and some generic ceramics to try the feel. I somehow like the feel of the ceramics and are really interested in some cards mold chips now. I like the idea of customizing the chips and having that ceramic clay hybrid feel. Does anybody in Germany/EU have some spare cards mold chips that I could buy as a sample?
