Hi everyone! What a community! I saw this forum while watching a “how to host a home poker tournament” on YouTube by Christopher M. - he mentioned he was a member so Chris if you see this, well done on those vids, they were super helpful. I’m looking to host a poker night monthly starting soon and I learned some great tips and tricks on how to go about that.

I’m new to the poker chip world but I’m already a fan so I look forward to beginning this journey and acquiring some great chips to use at my poker nights. I don’t feel like I know the rules (spoken or unspoken) to this forum just yet but I’m a fast learner so any helpful advice is always welcome. I look forward to interacting with you all. That’s all for now.

Welcome Kevin!
Take your time, browse around and feel free to ask any questions you might have. This is a great place with lots of friendly and helpful chippers.

Welcome! If you have any questions or concerns always feel free to ask. You can also browse some forum rules set by the moderators in the site guidelines section under "links". There is also a PCF glossary for terms and abbreviations commonly used on the forum under "resources, misc."
A general rule on the for amongst members is to be honest and courteous when buying/selling chips. We have a feedback feature here that provides some insight to past transactions for each member. Sales here are completed through an honor system (unless otherwise transacting through a site vendor) so your word and timely payment or shipping (and quality of shipping) goes a long way.

Will you be looking for cash chips, or tournament chips? Maybe both?

Cheers, Brie

Hello and welcome!

You may want to consider getting a sample set of chips for evaluation. It's a good intro to the various materials of chips available. Just sign up in the thread near the top of the Poker Chip General section.

Welcome. You’ll probably be interested in any post containing information on PCA chips. President Casino on the Admiral.

Hi Brie! Thank you for those suggestions and for the rundown on buying/selling. And those links sound really helpful so I’m going to read through those right away.

To answer your question, I will want both at some point but I’m going to start with tournament chips first since that’s the format my poker night will be set up with. I do have people interested in starting a cash game later down the road so I will want cash chips as well. I’m excited for the prospects here.

cheers,
Kevin

That’s excellent advice. I would like to get samples and see how different materials feel compared to the cheap set I have now. I’ll check that thread out. Thanks for suggesting it.

That would be great, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for PCA chips.

My absolute pleasure! I get a kick out of making videos for YouTube and am so glad folks seem to find them helpful! Welcome to PCF, hold on to your wallet! :)

@Chris Manzoni has a bunch of instructional & fun videos. There are also quite a few StL chippers here. Welcome and enjoy yourself !
Thank you. I’ve been looking up more of his videos. His sense of humor is great!

I’m glad to here there are more StL chippers, I really had no idea this was a thing until I heard about it in his video. This is a lot of fun!

Have fun man. Try to be laid back. Take your time deciding what chips you want. Wait 24 hours and then buy.

There are a few of us around from the St Louis area. Get samples, ask around, use common sense, and you'll get a lot out of this place.

Thank you! My wallet will be feeling it soon enough - lol. Really enjoy your videos man, keep up the great work.

Welcome Kevin, how’s everything in the City of Blues ?
Thanks! Things are pretty good (we’ll see how the blues do and I’ll get back to you, haha).

That sounds like great advice. I do tend to want to get something before really thinking it through so I’ll certainly try to heed that advice. I’m looking forward to figuring out how to get samples and get more accustomed to different materials/weights and such.

Welcome at PCF, check your wallet at the door ;)
Yep, I can already see dollars growing wings and flying away - lol.

Thanks for the link. I’ll check that out.

Another set I was introduced to that I absolutely fell in love with is the Aurora Stars - man those are amazing looking!
