Title says it all. wow, what a huge community! I'm bidding my time waiting for a few projects to finish before deciding what chips I will eventually buy.

Current options:

Iron Clay
Latin Quarter
Scroll
Valentino
The Apache board game/18xx project

The $20 chip is the sticking point with traditional casino chips, but I see that some ceramics can have custom denominations, making them easier to reporpose for board gaming.

Hello and welcome, I started playing 18xx because of the posts on here about the game. It certainly isn't poker but it is a fun game and chips make it better -- of course beautiful chips make everything better.

Welcome, everyone says it. Get samples. The scrolls are a bit lacking vs valentino IMO just from a quality control perspective. Check out hobbyphilic youtube channel. He has really great in depth reviews on alot of the commercially available chips. That's what led me here.

Again, welcome!

I just ordered a sample of the "Dia De Los Muertos"!

May I ask: what led you to choosing the traditional $100 color to be your $20 color? I imagine you don't include $100 chips in that set. I was thinking of re-denominating the $5000 yellow to be my $20 and getting the $5000 plaques if needed.

regarding samples: I went online to buy a $70 dollar set of denominated chips on Amazon. Of course, I instantly loved all of the more expensive options. I assume I'm going to feel buyers remorse whatever I choose: Either I'll regret not getting a better set if I go low end, or I'll feel I paid too much if I go high end. Add on top of that the price of samples and I feel like I'm really exceeding the budget! First world problems for sure.

I got the 99$

Well, I got a great deal on these 100$ plaques from a member here, then found a great deal on the 20$ DDLM 100x from another member and it sort of worked out since I was settled on the DDLM as my purchase. Since then I picked up 100x red 5r's from another guy and a tournament set 25s,100,500,1000,5000s from another. Now I just need the quarters and ones and I'll have the whole set. At that point the 25c 1,5,20&100$ plaques will be cash set, and the 25+ will be tournament set so no overlap.

I also have the 500pc Outlaw set from amazon. I got it to replace my dice chips while I trolled here and got samples before settling on, what I consider a substantial investment, 1000x DDLMs. Outlaw chips cost me 99$ shipped and are perfectly good chips IMO and an amazing deal for the price. My players love them, I never used the 100s from the set since I have the plaques. This is for a 10c/20 game where 1$chip =10c,5$chips =50c so 100$ plaques are worth 10$. Works well for me and everyone loves the plaques.

Going to get some 25$ & 50$ plaques for the DDLM once I have the whole set with actual 25c chips and can use face values.

Confused yet? :)

Thanks, all!

I went with a set of 300 DDLM ceramics. Stock chips except for swapping the $25 green for a $20 yellow. The original yellow is a $5000 value and since ABC sells a $5000 plaque for this set, I figured I'd use the plaque if I ever need a larger bank. The total of the chips is $26,000+ so I most likely have enough to run any board game under the sun.

I may add to the low end in the future for cash games. Although I really don't play poker right now, I'd hate to see these chip not being played, so I may have to start.

The only chip left out in the cold is the $25 green. I don't need it for gaming or cash games, but I'd hate to use it somewhere else since it's such a well known color/denomination match. Any thoughts?
