Headed to Amsterdam via London at the end of June - we might stay a night in London June 26, we might not... but will be headed to Amsterdam again for a few days, then off to Munich and over the weekend will be in Schloss Elmau July 1-3.

So... any recommendations for Amsterdam and Munich? Been to Amsterdam before, so aside from Holland Casino, Rijksmuseum and Rembrandt House Museum which we missed last time, we're wide open.

My recommendation for Munich would be to go in September for Oktoberfest!! However seeing as that is probably not the type of recommendation you were looking for I'd suggest visiting Dacau. I didn't have time when I was there but also wanted to visit the Eagle's Nest which was a couple of hours away. These suggestions might be more appropriate if you are a history buff but thought I'd share.

There is a nice small Dutch restaurant in the red light called Het Karbeel. Been there dozens of times. Get the fondue. If you are a 420 guy go to the Grey Area Coffeeshop not too far away from Dam Square. For edibles, get a hash cake from Paradox. Other than that, just have a nice time on the streets in place of being cooped up inside.

What kind of experiences are you looking for? My wife grew up in Munich and I’ve spent a lot of time there myself. I’m sure I can help with some recommendations depending on what you’d like to get up to.

Amsterdam... "Free" walking tour. You'll see the highlights and hear some cool stuff. When the sun goes down after the tour, revisit the highlights. Also, weed and shrooms.
Munich .. hofbrau house. Some say they're making franchises... but not in Munich, it's legit. Giant beers and pretzels.

You get me. Thank you!

Not too sure. We usually end up just walking around and exploring, so good drinks and food. Can be a hole in the wall or a nice spot as long as it tastes good.

My memories of Munich are much less, as it’s been (ouch) over 40 years since I’ve been there. However, the Hofbrauhaus and Lowenbrau house visits were an amazing time and different from anything that I had ever experienced in the US.

ENJOY!!!

Amsterdam is a beautiful walking city, the canals…etc. I remember Vondelpark being a high point to visit.
Last time we were there in 2016 we rented bikes but not right away. Bike rental will be our first stop this time. Absolutely loved cycling around the canals, grabbing a beer and snack. Rinse and repeat all afternoon.

Windmill tavern? Had a great selection and fun atmosphere when I was last there (2018)

We had the fondue here - very tasty and then I forgot my passport inside. :) Noticed a few blocks away and the owner had my bag tucked away and waiting for my return.

This is awesome.

I will add one as well, It's touristy, but you really must bring home some tulip bulbs. There are some certified for import to Canada/USA, but most won't have the sticker that helps at customs so make sure to find the certified ones.

Tulips are special connection for Canadians as well. The Netherlands were largely liberated in WW2 by Canadian troops, and Canada provided shelter for the Dutch Crown Princess Juliana. Every year as a thank-you 20,000 bulbs are sent to Canada and planted in Ottawa, that lasting friendship is symbolized by tulips.

Love seeing Blauw at the top of your list, I’m half Dutch and go a lot, this would be at the top of my list.

For a hole in the wall-ish spot we also love Hummus Bistro D&A. A bit out of the way but delicious Mediterranean with a great vibe

Lastly I stan for Manneken pis so that replaces #3 for me

The rijksmuseum is my wife’s favorite place on earth and we’ve been many times. Make sure to take your time and explore. See more than the Nachtwacht

The boats, guns and literal sunken treasure exhibit on the lower level was incredible.
