No equity calculators please for this thread. It gets weird.

$225 live tourney with a fairly soft field. Pays 12 with 27 remaining, so a little ICM pressure but the payout curve is really steep (42% of prize pool to 1st) and mitigates some of this.

9 handed, hero covers table. Blinds 1000/2000 with 300 ante.

UTG Folds
UTG+1 (55000) raises to 7000
1 fold
MP (64000) raises to 15000
2 folds
Hero (110000) action on button with :ad::qh:?

Any reads on the other two? I could 4 bet this sometimes (like 10% if it's the right two people) but mostly I'm folding this and am pretty happy.
Utg1 opened this size a few hands earlier but it didn’t get to show down. MP gives off a bad-reg LA poker vibe

I'm folding. You are most likely behind as one probably has a pocket pair and the other has A-x. So you have 5 outs, 3 if up against Ks. Fold, and let them do battle. Calling is no good, if you call and UTG1 goes all in, you calling that? If the flop comes and you miss, are you continuing to another large bet? Way better spots to be had.

Only other option is all-in if you have a read on them. Big stack pushing around the rest of the table. But I'd still fold and live to see another day.

I think folding here is fine, but the shove is tempting. Calling is the worst of all worlds.

If hero shoves let's look at how the other players will percieve their decisions.

UTG + 1 (hereafter referred to as EP) will be looking at calling 47k to win at least 131k and potentially 171k if MP comes along. If EP folds he will have an M of about 8 and about to post blinds. I think thisbis going to be a pretty tempting call with good holdings here. This may be the only spot to play a pot this big before the blinds chew EP up. It also matters if he percieves MP's 3 bet as light and hero's four bet a response to that.

Based on the information here, it really looks like MP is ready to play for his stack here. He is looking at similar odds, about 40k to win at least 132k and an additional 48k if EP decides to go with it.

Without reads it's tough to determine. If EP and MP don't get out of line often I think we can assume hero's shove will be called.

Now that said AQ isn't the worst holding in the world on an all in. Only worse than 2-1 against AK and AA. And shoving seems right if we think either player is short enough where they will consider calling it off with AJ or AT (I wouldn't do that personally, but I am not these players.)

So if as hero I wanted to talk myself into a shove, I would want to be pretty sure that both villian's are wider than QQ+, if one of them is pretty tight, I think I would rather protect the chip lead for now.

I think "never call a 3-bet with AQ" is a pretty safe rule to live by.
Agreed. Well i mean BU open vs BB 3 bet you can easily call, but not this spot.

anyways now that calling is out...fold or raise?

In this situation, it’s an easy (painful) fold for me. In my experience, people’s 3-bet range in these soft tournaments is pretty narrow - without a read, JJ or better, or AK is what I’d assume. For the reasons @JustinInMN explained, you’re likely to get a call ATL least out of MP and I’d say you’re flipping with him at best. And you don’t need that right now. Oh man it sucks to lay down a big ace on the button, but you’ve got lots of chips - there will be other spots.

I’m gonna leave this open a couple more hours then it’s onto round 2 (spoiler: I didn’t fold) and then it gets weird

Alright game time. Please no equity calculators before you post (this is a live tourney and you don’t get to use them). Hero is in seat 3 and MP seat 10

9 handed, hero covers table. Blinds 1000/2000 with 300 ante.

UTG Folds
UTG+1 (55000) raises to 7000
1 fold
MP (64000) raises to 15000
2 folds
Hero BU (110000) :ad::qh: raises to 35000
Blinds fold
UTG1 folds
MP goes all in for 64000
Hero looks directly at the dealer and says “Well, fuck. What’s the count?”
MP flips over :ah::kh:.
Dealer says “hey he didn’t call, only asked for count”.
MP flips his cards back face down.
Action on hero?

Without a calculator, I figure hero is about 25% to win, easy fold.

Is it? Bet 34k to win 131k? Yeah I’d probably fold, but I think it’s surprisingly close
Think pot is at 111,700 and it’s 29,000 to call yeah? Hand him a free 35 or make him earn it for 29 more... probably wrong but I call and expect the flop to come QQx :D

After the four-bet for 55% of villains stack it’s unlikely a shove is going to get a fold... I’m sure this isn’t the case but I’d be impressed to find out villain knew it wasn’t a call but purposely showed his cards in hopes of getting exactly AQ to lay it down :D

Serious question for the casino tourney experts. Can the floor kill his hand?

I’m no expert but I believe you’re good if the hand is heads up

I'm no expert either but I believe you're good regardless of how many players remain (except if there's some strange houserule). Might get a penalty, but I don't think an exposed hand is ever killed.
